Macgyver-ing LED backlights for Sharp LC-50UB30U

I have Sharp LC-50UB30U on my table. The backlights (IC-A-VZAA50D552) are shot, over half LED chips are out. No one seems to have them in stock, past sales history looks almost empty and the prices are astronomical if you want to put them together one strip at a time.

This TV runs 2 LED channels with 32x 3V LED in series so 96V per channel. Are there any alternatives I can use to get this TV operational with some other LED strips or some other method I am not aware of?

My first thought was to use 12V LED strips from eBay (see attached) and put 8 on each channel in series for 96V total. Anyone ever tried that? I have used them before on non TV related projects, they are pretty bright.

I don't see why you cant use led strips from other tvs just two wire per strip.

Because of the voltage. This TV has 8 LEDs per strip, 2 strips per row and 2 rows per channel. 32 LED per channel with 3V each is 96V.

I can't find another LED set that runs 8 LED per strip, 16 per row to make sure I don't overpower the LEDs. Plus there is the issue of the length, some trips are longer/shorter than others yielding uneven coverage.

The spacing is wrong and there are no lenses on the 12v LED strips.

A bit more time consuming but I'd remove the lenses, replace the individual LEDs then glue the lenses back on.

I have used the universal 32" LED strips from China on TVs before without event, so far. Even on 50" TVs.They have available strips with 6, 8 and 10 LEDs per strip. You may have to cut new holes in the Reflector paper to accommodate the lens. Stagger the strips i.e. the t1st row goes fully right then the next row fully left. You would also have to do some math to work out the No. of LEDs and the voltage per row. The diffuser sheet will spread the light evenly and fill the blank areas. It will; take some thought but it can be done.

I will try that route with hesitation. I have ordered a 10 pack of these strips and I hope they are color correct. Last time I ordered "compatible" replacement strips for another TV (40" Samsung with those angled backlights) they were purple like you would not believe.

Did you get the 10 LED per strip or the 8??

I actually got the 10 (I know wait) Each strip is 3" longer that the stock, so 6" overlap per row. I bought 10 per strip, and then I will cut the last two off, making the strip 8 and also shorter, so no overlap. Then its easier to "adjust" the reflector sheet as it is all in one row.

Maybe I will keep one strip per row with 9 LED, lowering the average voltage the LED chips and they may last longer.

I wont recommend cutting the strip. Put one above and one below. if you know how I mean. I usually buy the 10LED per strip myself. The original strips were how many. With a 50" it would have a left half and a right half. How many on the left and how many on the right?

Original is: 8 per strip, 2 strips per row, 4 rows total.
Based on the description the strips can be cut to shorter length. That's why I got 10 per strip to make then into 8 and shorter as well. I am worried that if I overlap, the center of the screen will be brighter than the rest. I could tape them over, but I like my solution better

OK. I guess you could cut the strips to get the 16 a connect both strips in series. As I said before even if there is a gap stagger the strips and the Diffuser sheet will spread it out evenly. It works for me and it will work for you too.

I won't be much help, but I LOVE the way you think!!!

I have had to rewire many an LED TV with non-standard strips to get them working..

                                Update Time:

I got the Chinese universal strips in main yesterday, they were shipped in PVC tube and arrived A-OK. Their design reminds me of the ones you see in Insignia and Hisense TVs. The color temperature is pretty spot on, and they are very bright. So much so that I currently have TV on lowers backlight setting and its about right. They came with adhesive tape on the back, but i still used mine as I trust it more.

Simple design and layout, you can cut them anywhere and jump the connections between the units, followed by generous coating of liquid electric tape to make it stick. Of course the reflector did not fit, so it had to be "modified." Once put together the light is even, you can't really see there are aftermarket backlights in the TV.

When they were on full brightness, while the panel was still off, they were getting pretty warm to the touch. I hope they will not burn out withing a year. Only 5 screw were left after the project I still have to get a remote.

                                        Sharp LC-50LB370U PS or backlights?
                                        by Mustang67ford
Hello all. Working on a sharp LC-50LB370U. A few days ago, I turned the tv on and immediately left the room, came back in and tv was black. Turned it off then on and all good (didnt think much of it at the time) for about a week. Did the same thing again but stayed black this time. When turning on, the word "sharp" is dimmer than normal I think then tv goes black. I do have sound and do have a display with the flashlight test. I trided unplugging and also holding in the power button for 30 sec, no change. I opened the back up and the backlights do turn on to some extent for a moment...

Reverse engineering of 18650 4-channel tester
                                        by spleenharvester
                                        Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

LG 50Lf6090 only backlights after replacing LED strips
                                        by IT&TVHobbies
I have an LG 50LF6090-UB that had a picture but started flashing on and off. Tested the LED strips and it had several bad LED's. Replaced the LED strips and turned the TV on and it only had the backlights on. Researched the issue and purchased a TCON board online. This did not fix the issue. Researched again and purchased a Main board on line. This didn't fix the issue either. The only thing now is that the backlights turn on as soon as I plug in the tv without touching the power button. Any help to identify the problem would be appreciated.
                                        Thank you

American Audio VLP1500 Distorting on one channel
                                        by dicky96
Hi guys I have a VLP1500 amplifier here - one channels works fine and the other channel distorts even at low volume settings

Protection and Clip LED are off

There is something wrong with the BIAS voltages around T16 and T18 (in particular) on the bad channel

I tested all diodes and transistors in this area in circuit with diode mode - both channels seem identical. Same in resistance mode across all the resistors here.

The output DC voltages on pin1 and pin8 of the 5532D dual op amp at the input of each amplifier module are the same, and the audio...
