VIZIO E320-A1... Gets power but no picture

Hi everyone. Such a fantastic forum!

I have a Vizio E320-A1 that is getting power but has no picture nor sound.

Here is what I currently know

White light stays solid when pressing the power button
    Capacitor C9810 reads 165-170 DCV

From here, I am at a loss. I am not an expert with electronics but will do my best to follow along and provide feedback while testing.

--The EEPROM is labled on the board as U409--

Looking forward to getting this TV working for my kids! =)

Can you read the numbers as printed on the white bar code sticker on the power supply board for me so I can find out if shojimmy will have good pictures of both sides of the board?

Re: VIZIO E320-A1... Gets power but no picture

165-170 DCvolt on main filter cap when pressing the power button means the power supply doesn't come oput of standby(165 when in standby,394volt DC when active)
We need to figure out if the mainboard even tries to turn the power board on.
Can you post a close up picture of the connector that runs from the power board to the main board? That shows the legend printed near the connector?

I think this is your board:
          http://www.shopjimmy.com/vizio-adtvc...upply-unit.htm

It also has the EEPRROM IC, so that can be one possible problem:
          http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsear...=VIZIO+E320-A1

Hi Matino, this board does not have PFC since it is an LED BACKLIT which consumes little power, they left the PFC parts (L9801, D9802, Q9801, etc.) out.

No problem, we are all here to learn, I just hope it is not EEPROM problem since it is hard to isolate software problem from hardware problem.
Once we verify that is is the same board as shown at SJ then we can use those pictures SJ, I really have to give credit for putting ups lots of really good pictures.

OK, your board is really close to what SJ has on the web site.
Using the black probe on the chassis then take the DC Voltage readings on connector CN9902 (13 PINS) and report the reading on each pins as shown in the pictures when TV is OFF and when TV is ON:
                  For example
PIN1.NC = no need to test this one
                  PIN2. 5.2V = XXXV (OFF), XXXV (ON)
                  PIN3. 5.2V = XXXV (OFF), XXXV (ON)
                  PIN4. PS_ON = = XXXV (OFF), XXXV (ON)

Found the connector. Here are my readings for the TV plugged in, unsure if powered on.
Edit: If i leave the TV unplugged for a bit, i can plug it in without the white light illuminating. This allows me to press the power button to turn it on, but pressing the power button again does not turn it back off.

                    Pin2: on= 5.29 (same when off)
                    Pin3: on= 5.29 (Same when off)
                    Pin4: on= 4.86, off= 0.08

I need the reading of the rest of the pins except the GND pins. So far the, 5.2V, PS_ON are OK.

OK, you do have two bad signals from the main board: Pin12 the Dimming signal, and the Backlight on (ON/OFF) pin13 are not being sent from the main board.
So you do have bad main board problem. The question is, is it the EEPROM problem or something else, I do not know for sure.
I would look and see or contact shopjimmy to see if the EEPROM will solve the problem or the main board will have to be replaced, just tell them that you are not getting any ON/OFF signal for turning on the inverter board.

Response from shopjimmy is as follows:

Here are the most common malfunctions associated with EEPROMs:

                                    - On screen display is stuck on logo screen
                                    - TV won’t power on with remote or buttons (LED indicator remains same color)
                                    - TV won’t turn on after being off for 30+ minutes
                                    - TV shuts off by itself during channel scan or when switching inputs
                                    - TV turns on and is stuck in color test pattern mode forever
                                    - TV turns on but there is no backlight (LED indicator shows TV is on but there is no image)

Think this means potential EEPROM replacement needed?

"- TV turns on but there is no backlight (LED indicator shows TV is on but there is no image)" Your set has this problem, no backlights due to no on command from the main board to the inverter board. I do not know how much the replacement board or the EEPROM are. If the EEPROM does not fix the problem due to other failure then you will end up buying the new board.
