Re: Sony KDL-46EX400 2 blink error code

      Hey Guys,

I just got in a KDL-40ex400 with the 2 blinks. I changed out the main board to fix it. We'll see if it holds.

It originally came into the shop with 6 blinks. I modified the inverter slightly to keep it from dimming quite so much (that is what was triggering the error).

After about a week, it came back in with the 2 blinks. After changing the main board, I removed my mod and it went back to 6 blinks. I put the mod back in. So far, so good.

I have replaced the T-con and there is no change.

Need to get back to this TV.
I would like to find out, if BL_ERROR should be 3.3V right after I plug ing in the power cord? It shouldn't be 0V when there is no fault?

              I try it again.
When the TV is working well, the BL_ERROR should be 0V or 3.3V?

Probably 0V, but that's a guess, because nobody except Sony know for sure. most pins are marked by what they are in the active state. E.G. PS_ON rather than PS_OFF.

This is a shopjimmy picturte. What do you think that would mean 3.3 V at BL_ERROR?

I'm trying to find out if I have a BL_ERROR or it is normal to have that 3.3 V there.
I have replaced every board on this TV, mainboard even three times and I'm still getting the 2 x blink error code.
I have tried measuring the balancer transformers as in the Youtube video, but it doesn't work on this TV, I guess that is a Samsung thing only.
I haven't checked the tubes yet.
If I force all the voltages to come on they come on and the tubes light up, though I don't know if all turn on or not.

                        Bud found this training manual.
I think that this one is the best that I can use for this TV.
Hopefully I will have some time in the next couple of days and try checking some voltages using this manual.
BL_ERROR show 0V in this manual, on page #21.

                          From my little experience:
In a fully working Sony LCD/TV set
I've seen BL_ERR is set to HI (3.3v) and BL_ON is set LO in standby mode. It's just normal. And the situation is reversed when the set is on.
So BL_ERR and BL_ON are just used as triggers of the lamps and not necessarily to indicate real errors.

I'm sure this info can be backed by the more seasoned members of the forum.
P.S. I can't understand why this simple thing has not been said by the many, many people that have answered to your questions

I get back again to this TV.
Any input would be appreciated. I'm decided that I will have to get to the bottom of this TV.
On page 22 on this SM BL_ERROR shows 0V, but that is when the TV in STBY mode?
Mainboard sends a 2.7V when I disconnect the wire from the connector. It's not visible when I connect it back to the connector, maybe 0.1V the most.
I have placed 3V at the end of the T_Con ON wire and nothing changed. The T_CON 12V turns on with this 3V applied to the T_Con ON wire.
Since the mainboard sends the signal to turn on the T_Con, then I'm excluding the mainboard to be the problem here.
I'm testing the balancer board right now. Then I will look closely at the PS.
Any ideas while I'm at it it would be greatly appreciated.
This is an answer to a recently posted idea on the 40EX400 thread.
I have tried unplugging the LED/IR LED board. but didn't change a thing. I'm not even sure if it turns on at all completely, without this little board connected. That one maybe works on the 40" size EX400. I can hear the relay clicking on and then off though, but I can't see the code, this way.
There is mentioned that the AU12V if it's to high, can trip this error. I'm measuring 12.73V there, that would be to high?

On page #34, shows the tree how to troubleshoot the 2x error code.
The question is 12.73V it's to high, or it's fine?
If it's fine, then it is the A board(mainboard) causing this error, right?

Re: Sony KDL-46EX400 2 blink error code

Just the other SONY LCD (other training manual, remember the other SONY we worked on that has bad master inverter board that we spent so much time narrow down to master inverter), the BL_ERROR is the inverted signal of the LD, the LD SIGNAL from Balancer board is fed into the inverter board which has invert Logic circuit that converts the LD HI to LO and that is fed to the main board. if the fault detected by the balancer, the LD will go LO which is then inevrted to HI and that will trigger the ERROR CODE for BL_ERROR.
"So BL_ERR and BL_ON are just used as triggers of the lamps and not necessarily to indicate real errors." That is not correct statement, BL_ERROR is not used to trigger the lamp, it is a generated signal of the failed lamp to tell the main board that some thing is wrong with the lamps. BL_ON is used to turn on the inverter circuit to generated the HIGH voltage to light up the lamps, if the inverter circuit fail to generate the high voltage, then the INVR_ERROR signal will be generated and sent to the main board and generate the INVR_ERROR CODE.
So the bottom line is BL_ERR should be LO in normal operation, HI = BAD (LD is LO, normal LD is around 12VDC).
Are you having 2x CODE? or 4X code?

                                    2 X.
TV clicks on and then right off showing the 2x error code, no backlight at all.
In that training manual, for the BL_error it shows 0V and I have over 3V there.

3V in standby or when TV is power up, but at this point you will have to fix the 2X code first which has nothing to do with BL_ERROR.

OK, on page 23, you can see 15V Zenner diode that is used for the excessive 12V power supply output detector, if the 12V line goes to 15V, the Zener will be bias on which is then fed to the Latching circuit, same for the 24V power supply which uses 30V Zener for detction.
So 12.73V is not excessive voltage to bias on that 15V Zener.
Excessive PFC and excessive PFC temperature can also trigger 2X code, page 18.

24V is for the smaller TVs, I don't have that. I think I have only multiple 12V.
How do I know if there is an excessive temperature protection is tripped?
I have 390V so there is no over voltage tripped.
I don't have a standby situation. As soon, as I plug in the TV, it turns on and then right off.

For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...

                                            Hello badcaps forum.

I have a Sony KDL-52Z4500 TV that needs a little trouble shooting. History of the TV: I bought it about 14 years ago. One year ago, I took it off the wall to move to another house. During the past year it sat in its original packaging - even with the thin film plastic bag/cover that it gets shipped in, cardboard box and all. Last week I unpacked it to mount it in the garage for my wife's gym that she has setup. Turned it on, set up a chormecast on it for her, and all was good for a week running like always (brownie points for me from the wife ).

Symptoms. Hit power, white light shows briefly and then 5 blink red code. TCON issue per chart on first picture.

I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...
