Hello badcaps forum.
I have a Sony KDL-52Z4500 TV that needs a little trouble shooting. History of the TV: I bought it about 14 years ago. One year ago, I took it off the wall to move to another house. During the past year it sat in its original packaging - even with the thin film plastic bag/cover that it gets shipped in, cardboard box and all. Last week I unpacked it to mount it in the garage for my wife's gym that she has setup. Turned it on, set up a chormecast on it for her, and all was good for a week running like always (brownie points for me from the wife
).
Then a couple of days into it being on the wall in the garage, it struggled to stay on for more than about 30 seconds (this bit of info is second hand from the wife) and then would turn off. By the time I came to look at it, when turning the TV on, the green LED would light up for several seconds and then the TV would turn itself off. During this time there is no hint of an image, that I can see at least (eg, a strong light at an angle on the front doesn't show any image). Once it has turned itself off, it goes into a 6 red LED blink sequence. From the service manual I have of the TV, that's a "Panel Det Error, PANEL_DET (VERD pin 40) - Level is below 0.83V". From what I have found on the net that could be either one of the inverter boards - looks like there are two of these, D4 and D5, or the main board, G6 or the backlights.
During the several seconds the green LED is on, the REG12V line (pin 6) on connector CN6702 is at 12V and the INV-ERROR line (pin 4) on that same connector is 1.955V. Once the TV turns itself off and goes into the 6 red LED blink sequence, both those lines go to 0V. I don't see anything really obvious visually, like a swollen cap or something like that.
I'm hoping someone in this forum would be kind enough to help me through troubleshooting this to find out which discrete component I could replace, or which board to replace if it comes to that to fix the problem - and getting those brownie points back
.
Thanks.
