I used that heat sink pad and it does work good. Just the end ones were a problem on this Samsung 850 series. 2009 model.

How many of these should I get?

I am fixing a 40" TV, I'd rather have more than not enough.

I haven't taken it apart yet, it is at my parents house and I'm going to pick it up in May.

Re: Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA Tab bonding repair

Just picked up a Samsung LN40A630M1F with the same problems. Found out it was the left most tab @ the chip. Put on a pad I pulled from a cracked screen plasma. All is well now. We'll give it the kid test and see if it lasts a weekend.
Thanks for the insight budm. That's 2 sets you helped me save from the trash.

Actually, I picked up 3 LCDs from a guy that tried to fix them all. He thought this one was a bad T-Con and put a new one in, but had same problems. My new problem is he lost virtually every screw and the internal hardware for the wall mount so this one is stuck on its stand. Got another 42" and that one is missing the back. How do you lose the back of a 42? I was skeptical that I could fix any of them being as they were laying in a porch in a stack all taken apart. So one of 3 so far is not bad for a start. Just paid for my trip across town. On to the next one.

I did not pay anything for those 3. They were free... Other than gas to get them. I "fixed" both Samsungs. Had tab issues on each. Sold off real cheap to a friend and let him know it's not a real fix but they work for now and maybe a long time. I figured worst case if I could not fix tab I had a good tcon /main / PS in each to eBay.

Re: Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA Tab bonding repair

I also got a 52" Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA with the same issue. Black screen on right side and then vertical rainbow lines with something plugged into the HDMI port and running.

I checked the T-CON, cleaned and re-seated the cables with no luck.

I am reading Budm's comments and looking at the pics. So the only thing you did was replace the Silpads along the bonding side and then on the TCON IC? Just wondering if this is correct. It appears this would be the best way to repair as I have seen to replace the T-CON but that does not appear to be the issue at least in my opinion. Any help would be great as I am new to TV repair.

                    Hi All,

I just wanted to THANK all you for the wonderful information on this. I had a neighbor who has a 42 LG (42LH30 UA) with a half screen. He had the left half of the screen black. I found this forum and read everything. I did try the T-CON board as a quick fix but did not solve the issue. I sent for the Birgquist pad and applied it to all the ribbons on the top (8) (left and right) put it back together and it worked like a champ. From tearing down to install and putting back together took 1 hour. Your forum was really helpful and I greatly appreciate the knowledge here. Thank You.

Down to the point, I've seen quite a few TVs with screen ribbon bond failure.

So far I see the main fix is to put pressure on the screen contact with rubber.

Dose anyone have another technique maybe heat to re-bond the ribbon?

Dose anyone know how the ribbons are bonded to the screen originally at the factory?

Wow I've just been lightly touching the problem-ed ribbon wire and have determined the bad connection with this Sony 46" LCD TV ribbon is the chip on the ribbon.

                          120voltz,

I had a similar issue with two TVs, same namebrand a slightly different model (LN52A550F3FXZA). The first TV I was able to fix, this is what I did:

The second TV I did not fix due to the chip on film burned:

I just got a 52 inch 850 series (LN52A850S1F) tv as well. When you turn it on it has a black vertical line through the center of the screen. As the tv warms up it stars to flicker and lines go through the screen horizontally. They start at the bottom and work their way to the top, progressively getting worse. I was thinking T-conn board as well when I saw it. After reading this post I now wonder if is a bonding issue as well. By looking at these pics I would like to get your opinion before I order a t-conn board if y'all don't mind.

After reading several posts today I will attempt to do a tab bonding repair like BudM explains. I have the Tv apart now and have cleaned out all the dust. Just need to find some bonding material to try out. Maybe Radio Shack will have something otherwise I will order some from the net.

Well the tab bonding trick did not help me out but on the bright side I got it all back together. While I had it running I unplugged the left side cables on the t-conn and the screen went to color bars. I plugged them back in and the picture came back with horizontal lines. When I un plugged the other side the right side of the screen became crystal clear. Even when I plugged the inside cable back in 3/4 of the scree is perfect when that 4th cable is connected it all goes haywire. I think a t-conn board might actually fix this thing. I will let you know how it goes.

Re: Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA Tab bonding repair

Thanks for the advise. Worked Great, TV has no symptoms anymore, a Samsung 46" LCD (Ln46a550).

I altered the guide a little bit putting one 2 " piece of 3M Mounting tape ( double sided grey foam material)
UNDER the PCB Board with the ribbon cables attached in order to put some tension on the cable and it will pull itself (Instead of push) against the pcb board to make a good connection. I then taped a few pieces from the bottom edge of the pcb board around the corner towards the back of the screen to hold the circuit board flush against the side (because the tape on the back of the board makes it angle out a bit on the bottom)

IMPORTANT: I suggest you take apart the unit and remove plastic case and bezel down to removing the metal frame where you can access the tabs/ribbon cables. Then lay TV on it's back up on a table (or any elevated flat surface) with several inches of bottom side of TV hanging off the edge of the table (so that you have access to power port and to plug for IR sensor/side buttons). PLUG in power button/IR sensor cable and plug in power cord.

TEST WHICH TAB\RIBBON IS BAD BEFORE YOU TRY AND FIX!!
THIS WILL SAVE YOU FRUSTRATION!!!! HERE'S HOW:

With the tabs accessible and TV powered on, you can simply press lightly /wiggle against where the ribbon cables meet the circuit board. BE CAREFUL DON'T ELECTROCUTE YOURSELF!! It will be very easy to tell which one/s are bad by touching it lightly.

Then simply put pad over or under pcb depending on which fixes the problem better.

I'll try and post pictures to help explain.

**********THIS GUIDE IS BASED ON MY SAMSUNG 46" LCD. WHEN DISSEMBLING YOUR TV, THE STEPS OF TAKING IT APART AND LOCATING TABS MAY DIFFER, BUT THE CONCEPT IS THE SAME****************

Three of the pics are trying from above the pcb board trying to show the piece of tape behind it, couldn't quite get it in focus
