Re: Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA Tab bonding repair

I recently did a tab bond repair on Samsung LN40A630, it seemed to be holding up but every once in a while when turning on from cold, it comes back. Im gonna take it apart one more time and try the Berquist stuff.

does a tab bond problem show up immediately after powering up the TV? or does it usually take a couple minutes to heat up and malfunction?

It can be both, usually it is immediate and can go away after warming up but in rare circumstances it can work for some time then occur.

Some time right away, some time after warm up then the expanding start to cause poor connections. You can usually flex the panel to see the affect of the bad tab bonding.

                      Hi,

I have a Samsung LE40F86BDX/XEU TV that is displaying a double image once I turn it on.

After a few minutes the image gets clear but sometimes still gets that doubled image one over the other.

I've been researching on this issue and seems that could be a defective tcon board or a tab bonding issue...

As an expert on the matter can you advise me?

All the best and best regards.

Definitely tab bonds. If you don't leave it too long you may be able to fix this. Though with these panels, I've only seen about a 40 to 50% success rate in repairing them.

                          Thanks for the quick reply.
So to sort this out, I'll have to do what exactly?
I've took everything apart on the back of the tv, and cleaned every single board on the back from dust.
I'll have to remove everything again... and then?
                          thanks for your help, cheers.

You need to get it to the point where you can take off the front plastic frame by essentially removing both the front and back plastic casing from the TV. Then, with that, remove the metal framing around the front of the LCD panel to access the tab bonds. Follow Budm's steps in applying the tab shim, on these it is usually the left or right bondings.

I have no suggestions myself for this exact model but the tab shims I make are always a little thicker than the distance between the tab flex and the outer metal frame, which can be as much as 5mm. They are also made to be flexible so they apply pressure without flexing the board or bond too much.

You could look into this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33616, I actually used the old thermal pad from a T-con board, it's solid in that it holds it's shape with a rubber like feel but with a slight "sponge" quality to it, it was about 5mm think.

Hello all, I would like to thank each and every one of you for this wealth of information everyone has put together.
This very thing happened to our Samsung 52" (LN52A550P3F) this summer (June-July 2013). I go to college 3 hours away (PSU studying Computer Engineering) and decided to take a look at it over Christmas break. Unfortunately, there is only 3 days left of break! (I want to get this done before I leave )
I currently just took off the metal frame and am ready to add the thermal pads. A few questions:
                                    1. Should I "stick" the thermal pad to the top of the ribbon cable (closest to the screen), or to the end of the ribbon cable (where it connects to the circuit board)....or both?
                                    2. I saw that budm used http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...R165-ND/307787 as his thermal pad with success. Will one quantity of this do the job?
                                    3. I would like to get that thermal pad, but I would have to pay an arm & leg for it to get here in 3 days. Are there any other recommendations? Can I get one at my local Radio Shack? Can anyone suggest one that's available on Amazon with Prime shipping? (I'm a Prime subscriber, thus 2-day shipping is free)

Thank everyone SO much once again. Maybe if I can get this to work I'll put up a video on YouTube because I've seen many of these TV's have this problem...

                                    -Matt

EDIT: After a bit of looking on Amazon, would this be a good idea? http://www.amazon.com/High-Performan...dp/B005J730WO/

Re: Samsung LN52A530P1FXZA Tab bonding repair

Hello everyone. Thanks to budm that gave me an idea

I purchased a Samsung LN52A550F3FXZA TV (cheap price ) that had lines on the screen. I did a lot of searches online and came up with my own solution. Perhaps my solution might work for you and others.

I have seem everyone talking about putting thermal pads over the chips-on-film that you can see when you remove the frame from the TV. Those chips-on-film control the colors on the screen, one board is for the left, another board is for the right. When you look at the t-con board on the LN52A550F3FXZA TV, there are two connectors, those two connectors have a flex cable, and those flex cables connects to another board with bonding tabs, one connector controls the right side of the screen, the other connector controls the left side of the screen. Before I removed the frame from the TV, I was able to wiggle the screen a little and noticed that the black line got smaller in size, or instead of being a black line, I got colorful vertical lines, if I continue to wiggle, the lines would sometimes disappear and re-appear as well as lines would completely be gone, but the black line would remain. I also noticed, that the chip-on-film close to the t-con flex cable connector on the bonding tab was VERY hot, hotter that the rest (I do not own a digital temperature meter), but I was able to tell by touching them.

I went ahead I put thermal pads on the right side bonding tabs over the chips-on-film, (I purchased the thermal pads from Digikey as specified by budm - http://www.digikey.com/product-searc...ords=BER165-ND), and I put the frame back, the lines were there, but when I wiggle the frame, the lines would not disappear at all, they would be steady, so what I did was, I put the thermal pads UNDER the chips-on-film on the right side bonding tab. That did the trick. The lines and the black bar disappear completely after I put the frame back. The TV has been working for three days without vertical lines or black bar. Ready for a movie tonite

Do you have a picture of how you placed the pad under the chip? I'm opening up my 52" and I've read in another forum this also has been working for other folks.

                                        Thanks,

I fix tab bonds with the panel standing up on its base so much easier.

                                            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
