These eeproms are not corrupting themselves. It's happening due to data stream loss.

Believe what you want to believe but my boards, repaired as described are holding up perfectly and it's not by chance.

Did you reprogrammed the eprom?
Or only resolder the board?

Is it possible that the mx chip is defective causing the currupt eeprom ? I have noticed that most of these baords having this problem have the mx chip AmTran also used a winbond chip on location u18 does any one know if they are having the corrupt eeprom problem ? My main question would be whats causing the corrupt eeprom as a hobbiest or reseller I can spend a couple hours resoldering but as a repairshop is it cost effective unless your rates are less than $35 hour because both boards (power supply&main) can be purchased as a kit for $69.95 with free shipping over the internet. Thankyou to Richparts,Miguelon69 and everyone that contibuted to this thread as I am only a hobbiest so my knowlege is limited

Hello ppl...just joined the forum after reading this thread, just fixed an E421VO with the same problem as the 32 and 37 inch models. I used a heat gun and slowly raised the temp of U48 which looks like a ram chip, with the pins underneath the ic...this is where the solder paste and ir reflow equipment is a must, as you cannot access the pins with standard equipment...if you get the ic hot enough (not too hot!) the ic will reflow itself. So far it works, but will time test it before I reassemble.

Hello everybody , I had 4 of this vizio with amber light and no power after pressing power button.
I had one board good so i swap the eprom and found that eprom was causing this problem , I order 10 blank eeprom to experiment also an eeprom programmer and read good eeprom save the info and burn (write info to new eprom)
AND now i am happy to say that all four board are working perfect.
I checked the regulators for crack solders and re-solder the points where something look suspicious and everything is good now.
I am happy to get this vizio that gave me a headache but finally they working
By the way I have a TV repair shop in Grand prairie TX.

I am a Tech and have replaced many of these boards under Vizio Warranty and all of the new boards have a sticker that says "u18 update" if that helps anyone out. Also just for info, LG (lucky Goldstar) the new 42 and 47 LV4400 series have the same Amtran boards and as well are having eeprom failures and LG will sell you just the new eeprom instead of replacing the whole board.

Do you know which chip they are using for this upgrade? I have seen three difference chips on this main board:

MX25L6445E W25Q64BV and MX25L6406E

And do you know the firmware revision number? if you access the menu on the E321VL and the go to help, then system infor, this will tell you.

I had two main board with MX25L6406E that just when blank, then I get no response from the power button, I just order MX25L6445E and W25Q64BV

you will need to have a good eeprom data loaded to the eeprom in order to make it work

I was leaning toward MX25L6445E Just wanted to confirm this. I do have a good copy of the eeprom for the failing main board.

Yes its a common problem for the following models: E321VL, E371VL,E421VL and E420VO. There maybe more models that uses this main board. Also I have found bad solder joints and the need to re-flow the main processor on these main board.

I'm able to read the eeprom U18 with my programmer and to find the eeprom simply when blank. why? I don't know.

Im testing the MX25L6445E on the same board now after having the
MX25L6406E going blank after 24 hours

Would like to see in full what others have done. Tried swapping U18 from a good board to a bad one, didn't fix the issue. Any other ideas? Touched up the solder on the main processor and video processor, no help.

So it looks like at least the E series are bad.
Well, I hope someone that have done a lot will step up and help us out.
I still like to know also if you load the firmware into the new IC first and then install it or install the IC and then install the firmware.
