Well at first the tv wouldnt come out of standby mode. red light on front, but wouldnt power on. So i bought the FIRST mainboard (used) installed it and the tv would power on, blue light on, backlights on, and i would get a BLUE Screen but no polaroid logo or anything else. i sent that board back and bought the SECOND mainboard (used), which is the one i currently have. Now this is where things change, i get the tv to power on, blue light on, backlights on, but no blue screen, it stays black.

Main board or TCON. Unlikely to be PSU, but it could be...

This is why I hate repairing cheap electronics, there is rarely a simple answer to a problem.

I haven't read through the thread thoroughly, can you give me a run down of problems you have and tests you have done?

any thoughts on my last post???

well basically ive got 1 mainboard that wont turn the tv on, stays in standby mode. the other board will turn the tv on and baklights on i just get a blank screen... so im thinking maybe the board the wont turn the tv on, might be the easier of the 2 to try and fix....

Hey, I just got one of these TVs off craigslist for free so I've been reading up everywhere, including this whole thread, to see how to fix the tv.

My symptoms are: When you plug in the tv, the red led comes on. When you press the power button, a little buzzing sound occurs and the led turns to blue. The backlights come on, but no picture shows. The speakers make a slight buzzing sound while on. And I can't turn the tv off with the power button on the side or on the tv. I have to unplug it.

No caps appear to be bulging or damaged on both the power and main board.

I tried measuring at the different test points that were provided in this thread. I hooked the ground on my DMM to a screw hole and would press the different test points while the tv is on. None of the test points read the correct voltage. Although, I did find something interesting.

When probing TP29, the speaker buzzing changed frequency while the tv was on. It never did that with anything else I tested. Also, if I turned the tv off, held the probe on TP29, and tried to turn the tv on, the tv would not turn on.

Any ideas?

Hey guys, I would love to hear if you have made any progress on your tvs. I have 3 Polaroid 32's with pretty much the exact symptoms, can't really get any further.

After playing with my set for about a solid 6 months, I finally found a cheap replacement power board on ebay. I swapped it out and all is well. I got rid of it already. Sold on CL.

My name is Ken, and I'm a newbie here at badcaps.net. I found the site recently while researching repair options for a Polaroid TLA-04011C. I don't subscribe to forums as a general rule, but found that the posters here seem to be serious, and informed. So, I hooked up. If anybody wishes to offer any insight to my TV endeavor, I would be grateful. i am particularly interested to find out if member "ryr0909" was ever able to fix his, as he and others were working on a project just like mine. I should mention that I don't believe there are any....well; bad caps. They all pass visual exams, and rudimentary ohmeter test. Thanks. kfhaggerty@yahoo.com.

Bad cap can look normal with no sign of bulging or leaking.

well i guess i should give my closing comments on this thread since i did start it. unfortunatly i ended up throwing in the towel on it, my friend didnt want to put anymore money into the unit. i got as far as changing out one of the boards, but that was it. ive since given it back to him a while ago and have no idea what he decided to do with the unit. i was at my wits end with that thing, and its not very often that i throw in the towel, but there wasnt anything more that i could do, since it wasnt mine.

I was unaware you had written requesting photos of the boards. I am such a newbie, I didn't know to check, or that I had a mailbox. I'm not even sure if I should send a private message, or just post here....so I'm doing both. I will set up a rig tomorrow and get some good, detailed shots. I've seen some of the pictures that are offered up, and I will try to do a bit better. I will include the tv's history as I know it as well. Thanks for responding.

I thought I was going to be able to do better (the camera I have at my disposal is apparantly not as advanced as I had hoped), but let's see how they look online.
History:
I got the TV from a neighbor, who got it from a neighbor. It allegedly got pissed on by the first owner's cat. Whether it was broken before the pee letting, I am not sure. I brought it home and opened it before powering it, so as to minimize further damage. I found terrible corrosion aound the right side power button bar, and some circuit board-to- chassis ground connections (hence the extra green wire you may notice in the photos). After making the repairs, I started it up and....LO....it worked. Excited to have a free wide screen (my first), I started making its final living arrangmenents (moving the old TV out, etc). After 2 hours running time, and just minutes before finishing the whole set up, the TV simply winked out. I wasn't touching it or moving it; just turned itself off. That's when I started getting the red-to-blue power light cycling. No picture, no sound, no backlights. just flashing power button. I knew about the potential capacitor problem, but can't seem to find evidence of it here. Visually, they pass. They also pass the only in-circuit test I know, which is to watch the small resistance change when a standard ohmeter is attached. There looks to be some charing around the A6252M regulator, but I am of the understanding that if it were bad, I would have no power light at all. The I cannot find a legible schematic. I have no oscilliscope. I have NO money (I'm disabled, and unemployed - no income due to being screwed by the government). I'm trying to fix whatever board my be the problem with a multimeter and my wits, but cannot with any certainty determine which board, or board components are bad. I'm desperatly looking for someone who might be able to offer me some form of assistance in the form of knowledge, suggestions, paperwork, drawings, or anything else; and I humbly need it gratis. If anyone would like to help me, I would love to read your input. If I'm asking too much, I'm sorry....just tell me to piss off. If more photos are required I can try to take more specific ones if needed. Thanks to all. Ken.

OK, that small IC A6252M is the Switching power supply IC for producing the Vsb at the output pin of the connector.
There are printing next to those white connectors that go to the Main board and to the inverter board. Can you take the pictures without all those connectors attached since I cannot see the labels.
So check the DC voltage on that Vsb pin and report the reading. Black probe on the chassis.

I think these are the photos you want. I checked for voltage at pin Vsb onCN3, and got 4.95 VDC. I also got that reading on the corresponding pin on the main board. This was done with the TV plugged in, but without turning on the power button.
