  • hp pavilion aio 27-xa0014 No display/ black screen

Hi, i have an Hp pavilion desktop all-in-one (27-xa0014) that shows no display on the main screen. however if i connect an external monitor, it shows windows login screen like normal. The touch screen portion does work. I have taken the entire computer apart and removed the LED backlight strip and tested each individual LED with a multimeter in diode mode and all LED's are good. I figure the next thing to test would be to see if the LED backlight is getting the proper voltage sent to it. Which is where i need assistance. im not sure how much voltage there should be or at which pins of the connector....

Well thats a good question... im wanting to say a bad solder joint on the power supply board. thats because after replacing the logic board, i still had nothing, and so i decided that ill recheck all the solder joints that i had done previously as well as any questionable looking joints. Then i fired it up and VOILA it started working. i now have had it running for 5days straight with no hicups whatsoever...

Finally got it working like a champ. After replacing the Main Board, i went through and RE-checked all my solder connections on the power supply board. and voila!

What i have learned from all this.... When replacing the electrolytic caps, change ALL, even the tiny ones as well. they didnt look bad and i under estimated their potential for failure. Also when ordering new caps, double check their physical measurements as well as their electrical measurements....

WELL, IM BAAAAAAACK. and so i ended up finding a used logic main board on ebay for $15
i installed it and i get blue power light on when pressed. the backlights come on but still nothing on the screen. I plugged in a vga cable to my laptop, the laptop identifies the external monitor as the correct model (HP F2105). if i use the FN key on my laptop to switch to external display, the monitor screen will flash once as if its receiving the video signal but still NADA on the screen. i know there is nothing wrong with the lcd screen itself...

yea OUCH pretty much sums it up.... i hate when the end result is like this (being a component that i cant replace) im a mechanic by trade and instinctively my thoughts are to fix something, rather than replace. but it is what it is cant win 'em all. hope this tread helps someone in the future

So i was able to fix the issue with the power supply board. I decided to replace the remaining 3 CAPS that i hadnt changed at the beginning. see attached pic. Once i changed those caps, the monitor powered on, solid blue light, backlight came on and it was even detected by windows 7, once i attached the video cable to it. But nothing was showing up on the display, not even the OSD Menu....

  • Re: attempt to repair power supply board

So the remaining 3 caps came in the mail today. i installed them and we now have power. power light comes on blue when i press the pwr button. it remains on untill i press it again (just as it should). I see the backlights come on but nothing on the display. i tried it with and without a video cable plugged in and no difference. i know when this monitor (working as it should) is powered on, if i press the menu button the OSD menu should show up on the display. unfortunately it DOES NOT. when i had the vga cable plugged into...

thank you but the solder joints are fine, they dont look the best but they arent shorted and they do have continuity.

  • Re: attempt to repair power supply board

i know for certain that the issue is in the power supply board because when i attach the board from my other monitor (same model) everything works fine. i just now took measurements at the connector on the power supply board (cn702) that connects to the logic board see attached pic...

  • Re: attempt to repair power supply board

ok well after hooking it back up with all boards connected, i checked the voltage and it was fluctuating between 10vdc and 14vdc. i unplugged each board 1 by 1 and when i unplugged the logic interface board, the voltage stabilized at 18.98vdc. there was no change with any of the other boards plugged or unplugged...
