These pumps are known to fail. Usually the ceramic shaft holding the impeller breaks and if caught early enough another shaft can be fashioned from stainless or brass. I let mine go a little too long making noise and now after repair my pump has failed again and probably for good. I have not yet disassembled the unit to get to the pump to check for sure so this is a little pre-emptive.
New pumps cannot be sourced and genuine parts are not available either. I do have on hand another pump of similar size and flow rate (specs on either pump are sketchy!) and if it comes to this I will test it in system to make sure it is a suitable replacement.
THE PROBLEM:
The old pump ran off 12v AC the new pump needs 12v DC. What is the best way to make this happen without adding an external power source ? Can I rectify 12v ac to obtain 12v dc or is that way too simple ?
