Best power supply you've had

What's the best power supply you've ever touched or owned?

Mine came from a Epson printer that kind of died. I think it was purely made in japan. There's two giant rubycon caps (i don't know specs, its stored inside an epia embedded system now) on that DC power supply board. I'm not sure how much wattage it has, but strangely it connected with an ATX connector to the printer's logic board, and it works with an EPIA system.

Best, probably a 500+500w redundant in an old dell server. Not ATX though.
Best ATX one: probably a 250w Sparkle, that is incredibly stable.

I haven`t been involved in this subject for too long but I do have a PC Power & Cooling 510 Turbo Deluxe in this rigg and for my gaming rigg I have the PC Power & Cooling 510 Express/SLI!!!

Despite running a bit hot for over a year, the power supply in our Topfield TFPVR5000t (a real workhorse) is rather decent (no bulging caps!).

My 450W powmax sitting in pieces in front of me!
I have a 250w Sparkle and a 350w Enhance that have been heavily abused and are still perfect despite not so great cap brands.

235w (In-Win) Power Man (Fortron built). Mostly Nippon Chemi-Con caps, ran a P2-266 and a Duron 950 fine for about seven years, now it's unused until I set my Athlon 850 back up. Came with the In-Win A500 case, which is also still in use.

That's good, Shroomie. Fortron appear to make great PSUs. My 250w is currently in a cellie 1.7ghz that runs pretty hot. Still very stable folding 24x7.

Fortron FSP530-60GNA. Nothing but Teapo inside, been running 24/7 for almost two years now.

My best PSU may well be a Hipro (!). It's got a failed fan but is powering my school's principal's P2/333 stably! I'll open it up to replace the fan and/or PSU tomorrow, though.

Best power supply I've ever had, was a generic (I don't remember the capacity or brand, it's been way too long) AT unit that powered a 386DX, a 486SLC, a 486DX2, an Am5x86-133 and briefly a Celeron 500 /w PCChips motherboard, in succession. That sucker lasted for years. As for the best ATX PSU I had, in terms of stability and reliability, it would probably be the LiteON PSU that's been powering my Dell Dimension 8200.

On the other hand, that PowMax 300W I 'fixed' hasn't died yet after 3+ years, much to my amazement. How did I 'fix' it? I replaced the Jee primaries with Nippon Chemicon units, replaced a suspicious-looking Jee secondary with a similarly rated Samyoung (I know Samyoung isn't the best brand to use, but I needed capacitors then, and even Samyoung should be better than Jee), and installed the power supply's guts into a different PSU case which has a large Jamicon fan directly over the electronics. Ever since I did all that, it's been running much cooler so maybe that's why it hasn't died on me yet. My father has the PowMax for now. (I am looking for a suitable high-quality replacement PSU for him, however.)

sorry for the late reply. anyway my best power supply is a generic 230W ATX power supply. 4 years and counting and a PC Wattage calculator said that my setup would pull about 225W. Shows that not all generics are bad. also i know this person who has a generic AT PSU 12 years old. about 85W And it is still working fine!

My bst PSu was an generic, it was in an P2 400 MEDION system. All caps are Nichicon, well build. only the fan has given up (it was loud, not defekt). This was one of the last good Medion builds. Every part on it was build to last for ages.

Appart from that, i would say after i recaped my Amacrox Free Earth 500w with Panasonic FM caps today, this would be my new best psu ever ;-)

My best was an Antec Smartpower SL450 450W dual-fan power supply. Put it through lots of abuse, and it still runs fine. It still has its original Fuhjyyu caps.

Its almost a year old.

Though it died from bad caps, my True 430 was the best.. it was maybe a year old and came in a complete k6 system I got for $10.

A Bestec 165W or 185W powering an HP Pavilion 455MHz (IIRC) Celeron. Lasted for years until its performance got too trying for our patience. Our current Vaio machine is four + years old, all original, but I don't know the P/S vendor.

Ignoring notebook adapters (of which I have over a dozen excellent Thinkpad and HP adpaters, mostly Delta), my best is an old Pan-Star 135W AT power supply powering my P200/MMX Linux firewall/router. I retired it a few months ago, and it's still fully functional after maybe 10-15 years, of which the last 4 were 24/7/365.

I recently recapped a Bestec that came out of a K6-2 HP Pavillion "Piglet" case. While it's reasonably well made for its rated 100W, a lot of secondary caps had bulged and vented - I forget the brand(s), but they were Chinese/Taiwanese. It's OK now after the recap - this Piglet had a stock Asus P5 board in it, and all engineering (except maybe the case) seems to have been outsourced. I'm investigating the possibility of dropping in a stock microATX S754/939 Sempron board into it.

Back when I was having problems with my VP6, and got thrown into the whole badcaps thing, along with replacing the badcaps, I also replaced the stock PSU with an Antec TruPower 430. That was about Nov of 1999??? That damned thing has been running 24/7 (except for a couple moves) ever since. I am just now noticing a whine in the fan, but considering the dusty conditions its been exposed to, I'm suprised its lasted this long. So, when I get my butt moving, I will replace the fan and any bulging caps and watch it run another 6 years.

I really like the build quality of Sun Microsystems Enterprise 450 PSU. I think it rated a little over 600W. And you can fit 3(!) of these PSUs in a single E450 chassis! Mine has just one installed and the system draws only 100W on idle. The PSUs are hot swappable. I'll take some pictures the next time the server needs a reboot.

My best PSU is the one that's currently powering the older Athlon machine. It's been in service since 1999 - although it's full of Teapos, I've never had any problems with it, no fan replacements, no recaps. The PC did have a lot of crashes and BSODs, but that was most likely down to the Windows ME installation - upgraded to XP and it became much more stable.

Loving this Enermax Noisetaker 420w though. Panasonic input, JPCE TUR output, stable as a rock so far.
