  • Re: Skylink Net 1008 Switch

It`s an old topic, anyway i do not think 350v is too bad. With 320v max. voltage they have plenty of headroom. The 350v is factory guaranteed working voltage.
For quality brand capacitors there is IMHO some margin above this and ED series is probably the best of the best in it`s league. They are expensive stuff.

Additionally, i have installed a transill surge diodes and an varistor. Any substantial surge would blow the fuse.
Both units are still in use without any issue. Simply working, no reboots no hangs no glitches, nothing....

Well, if you could get some NT68F63L i think you can try it.
I am not sure, if you need to flash the firmware. If you want to save your current firmware, you need a simple adapter VGA > LPT port and the flash tool from the NT68F63L`s manufacturer (Easy Writer").

NT68F63L could be bought from here:

  • Re: PSU holdup time vs UPS switching time

Active pfc circuit`s are in most cases voltage regulated step up converter. So as long as the A-PFC circuits output voltage is higher then the input voltage, i do not see any problems there.
The charging voltage for the capacitor is always around 400v to near 450v, regardless of the input voltage.

The NT68F63L is the one with the sticker. The label indicates the firmware revision, which may be specific for the device / panel.
The NT68F63L has it`s own EEPROM. You can flash it via COM port.
I do not know the cause of your particular problem, but what i do know is that there are a bunch of Syncmasters out there with failing NT68F63L.
Usually the obvious symptom is the "out of range" error, but may be there are other symptoms.

On request i add an image of the PSU connection and corresponding voltage.
I have done a lazy job, so you have to zoom in to read the labels....

  • Re: Questions on recapping a Seasonic SS-300FS

Well, i have a SS400FS on my bench, may be i check what kind of 5v Sb circuit they have.
Apart from that, topswitch circuit is a good design, IMHO no need for mods.
The topswitch in to220 is designed for higher power output, thus it comes in a package with better heat dissipation. This is obviously better then a small foot print package.
You can by them in any package, so in reality the DM311 is another form of topswitcher device, just another mfk.

  • Re: Questions on recapping a Seasonic SS-300FS

I think the SS300FS should be a fine and reliable psu apart from caps.
I have used the ss300FS and especially the SS400FS in most AMD K7 / K8 builds.
The 5v sb is AFAIR a topswitcher circuit, pretty safe and solid IMHO. Not a board killer, even with bulging caps.
Have recently checked one of my K8 builds with an SS400FS (i upgraded the HDD from 40gb to 1TB as the user needed more space) and replaced the last few capacitors, i had not replaced right from the start.
The positive with this psu is, that there...

  • Re: I'm totally puzzled by this power supply!

You need the fast diodes due to the switching frequencies of this boost converter. Those PFC converters are switching in the range of 50khz +
A normal diode will short out the current, as it can`t switch off fast enough. A normal diode should run very hot and should die.
Furthermore, i would use a 20 to 60w bulb as ballast, dunno of such a circuit can run without it. May be the PFC controller is shot too.
But usually, a PFC stage is not that complicated. Basically it is the controller, transistor, energy storage...

Those NT68F63L are already programed, but you can program it by your own with the EasyWriter software from Novateck and a simple LPT > VGA adapter.
So you should be able to save your original firmware (careful, obey the correct checksum) and program it to the new chip.
ATM i do not know which chip is the right one, if no of them offered match your four digit code. But for the 913N i think they do offer one. or simply ask the seller.
I have replaced the video board completely in my 913N and it wasn`t...

As time goes, the problem with this monitor is indentified. It is the NT68F63L controler, wich failes. There is no solution to this except replacing. Even reprogramming the firmware does not help. It is simply a age related failure of this IC. Sadly enough, i have not found any reseller of this chip, with the exception of a chinese one. Chip item costs 4.6US$ but shipping to germany is abouth 29$ so that an economic repair.

Edit: for you US guys this ma y be interesting for you:

  • Re: zyxel p660r-d1 recap ? What cap's to buy ?

Take panasonic FC or FM or any other decent low esr capacitor; that are basic buck regulators, they work with anything rated as low esr capacitor.

    Re: Intel

We should be greatful to AMD for not giving up their business. If AMD werent there, we would now are facing 2.4ghz P4 systems burning 120w+ with 128MB RDRAM for a premium price tag.
So no DDR RAM, no DDR2 RAM, no DDR3 RAM for cheap, but expensive RDRAM to lets put even more money to Intel (well, they cleverly bought some shares from RDRAM patent before going public with it). Not to speak abouth integrated memory controlers......now with I7 after several years intel does it. Not to speak abouth core2d, the whole new low frequency cpu series....nothing would be there....

  • Re: Which of these psus is the safest?

Codegen are pure junk, have seen some smoked systems simply by overloading ( e.g. new VGA card with more power ...). So i would not put it in any more demanding unit.
In a P3 or celeron setup i think it should be tolerable.
I would not bother with any of those psu`s, rather buy something like FSP OEM or Delta. Very cheap and always a recap worth.

Acronis Truen Image does all what you want, and it isn`t that expensive. Some oem use it too.

  • Re: New router time!

Well, DD-WRT has many features, but this all needs power and costs performance.
My best Internet experience up today was an wrt54g v2 with tomato firmware.
Less features, but very fast, no problems with many connections, low pings even with some file sharing at the same time and stable.
Simply unmatched from anything i used then.
I switched then from dd-wrt v23 or v24 to tomato and never regret it. But IMHO, tomato dos not have a mini system for the castrated versions of wrt54g.

  • Re: Spectroniq PLTV-3250 wont start

Z-diodes like D4 do either protect the gate of the switching mosfet or are for over voltage protection. I would not recommend to use any SMPS w/o it. In the best case, you just simply blow the mosfet or anything powered from the psu. In the worst case, it will cause a fire.

  • Re: MOSFET and MOSFET driver problem

From what i have seen, the lower Mosfets are in paralel, to reduce resistance and rreduce heat and looses.
OEM`s may cheap down here and populate only one. This increases heat and drops efficency significantly.
As long as the MOSFET can handle the current, there is no need for an paralel MOSFET to run the circuit.

The input MOSFET is not switched on very long and currents are mutch lower (well at 12v input voltage to the inductor).
So it does not generate much loss in general.

  • Re: Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop "fixes"

Seems to be a lucky day for me. Have took the system apart, cleaned it and put new thermal paste onto the cpu. Now the system is running with one 512mb dim.
The cpu is already a Nortwood 3ghz c, so heat issue there.
Only the DVD rom and battery are bad, but may be this has to be expected.

The DVD rom does not recognice any media, so i think it i have to replace it sometime.
No i have to clean the HDD to make room for a Linux instalation (dualboot mode wit wxp).

    EDIT: it is an 9100...

  • Re: Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop "fixes"

I have got an Inspirion 8100 from a friend. Problem was no boot issue with blinking caps lock led.

First i locked for the CMOS battery, which was drained, so i ordered an replacement. May be this was to early, as this battery is an a rechargeable lithium button cell, so may be this thing was not necessarily bad.

Any way, i removed HDD and one of the two 512MB DDR ram sticks. After removing one ram module, the system boot up to windows, but it does only boot up with one stick. I swapped both in any slot,...
