HP W2207H Screen to Black in a second or two

Turning the monitor on/off shows the image for a second then goes to black. I can read the screen using a flashlight.

It looks like the inverter board has a few domed caps so my assumption at this point is that is the cause (see images).

Performing a search I found a few sources in Asia for the 490891400101R board for $20 including shipping.

Most of the forum posts here recommend replacing the caps with quality ones. Any updated opinions on which way to go? If it's replacing the caps then what is the best source and which do I need?

good question, if your ok with the solder iron, I would try replacing those 2 bulging, low esr caps from digikey maybe, more caps could be bad but that's where I would start.

If you get the replacement board, it will probably come with those bad caps that they should not use in the first place.
You can get good caps from digikey or mouser. I use PANASONIC FM/FC/FR series for all my repair works.

I think I'll try the capacitor replacement first and buy the board if all else fails.

I've done some fine soldering in the past (XBox, iPod, small and large appliances).
I have a Radio Shack dual wattage soldering 'station' (20/40 watt). Is this OK?

The existing two bulging CapXion caps are identical -

1000uF 25V
> - > (negative lead indicator)
GF 105°C
P740
VENT

Measurements -

Diameter: 12.5 mm
Height: 20 mm
Lead Spacing: 5 mm

I went to Digikey and here is what came up -

Would this be an acceptable replacement for the two bulging caps?

Do I need to replace the "white glue" with some other adhesive (RTV?) after the caps are replaced?

Oh nice! The HP w2207 monitor! I have replaced and fixed about 5 of these monitors! These monitors almost always bulge at the same spot and yes those caps are almost always to blame! Once those caps are replaced with quality caps, your monitor shall return to stable power.

FM/ FR/FC are all OK to use, no need to put the glue back on.

I've been traveling a bit and will be for a little bit more. I haven't been able to order the caps or work on the repair yet but will do so when I can.
