A pump as in a solder sucker? I have one too but it seems like there is not enough solder to suck, unless my solder sucker is not that good.

The best I worked with, in a repair shop 500x a day, are the Edsyn soldapullt or the anti-static version. Haven't tried the chinese knock-offs of it.
Trick is to put a little Lubriplate (grease) on the o-ring and inside tube. That makes a huge difference.
Many solder suckers have crappy suction and poor technique can also make people give up.

Well I got the holes cleared enough to put the caps back in and I tried to solder them but there is one of the legs that solder doesn't flow in the hole when heat is applied. Maybe I lifted the pad and removed it? What does the pad look like on a motherboard capacitor? All the picture I see online seem to show a pad from a small PCB and it doesn't look like what I am seeing on the motherboard.

I agree, clean and lube the sucker and get a good photo of the board with the problem. If you've lifted a pad that can be dealt with but a good picture is needed of it to advise properly.

Re: What is a mechanical solder sucker?

And I was looking at getting a good solder sucker, now is soldapullt a brand that belongs to edsyn? Or it's an actual word that any company can use because I see some soldapullt made by different companies. The edsyn seems hard to fine.

Yes, it's a brand name and there's no difficulty finding sellers that I can see from here in the US.

I use Edsyn Deluxe SOLDAPULLT with ceramic tip (very hard to find), use it for years and years and years, just have too keep it clean like redwire said. Stay away from the Chinese knockoff.

Did you clean and lube your solder sucker? It makes a big difference even on a cheap one.

i have one with 2 o-rings for extra suck - and i modded it for faster travel! it has some kick!!
oil the ring(s) and put a bit on your finger and wipe the inside of the barrel.

I always keep my clean and lube (the barrel, the tip, the 'O' ring, the shaft, the spring).

No actually I didn't clean and lube it, just removed the excess solder by pressing on the button and the plunger sticks out ejecting the solder. I didn't know I had to lube either.

Ok so I was confused, the store what listing the supplier and I though it was the brand of the product. So the one I am looking at is actually a Edsyn soldapullt DS017-P maybe ill pick it up tonight and see if it works better than mine.

you only need to lube it "sometimes"
like when i dries up or clogs with solder dust.

how often depends on how much you use it.

What kind of lube do you use? Does it need to be something real specific?

Now that it's mentioned I need to clean and lube mine

What solder sucker do you have? Just curious, but whatever it is it certainly isn't going to hurt to open and clean it anyway.

I just use a bit of petroleum jelly (vaseline).
