Re: Z270 PCH Reballing help needed pls
Atten ST862D.
I'm not sure if its the flux i'm using Kingbo RMA, i read somewhere if you overheat the joint you can burn off the flux and then the two surfaces become oxidised so wont solder together?
Could you recomend any fluxes worth a go.

Z270 PCH Reballing help needed pls
I'm trying to reball a Z270 PCH, i've got the right stencil for the PCH and it's direct heat type.
I initially tried using 0.3mm solder balls (leaded type) but am having lots of problems with the balls not wetting to the chip, basically some of them just wont solder to the pads.
I'm making sure the chip is as clean (using ipa) then putting a thin layer flux on then putting in in the holding jig with the stencil on. I'm the heating to about 400degC with minimal airflow (4% on my Atten) but some balls just refuse to stick!!
I've repeated the above using...

SOLVED---- Re: Atten ST862D hot air station weird message!!
Turns out there are a few different user guides for this hot air station, initially i had the one showing just the base station, i've now got another version that shows the basestation and the handle.
Basically if you hold the button on the handle for 3 sec's it turns off the hot air and displays COL = cold (not enough charaters on display to spell cold).
So i must have acidentally switched it to cold air only (DOE) and automatically thought the heating element had gone.
Hope...Last edited by petemanuk; 01-14-2023, 03:44 PM.

Atten ST862D hot air station weird message!!
Went to use my Atten ST862D hot air station today all fired up as normal but after few min's the heat stopped (air stil blowing) and the display popped up with the messasge COL.
I've read the manual (all 6 pages of it) from cover to cover but no mention of a display message COL ??
I'm guessing the heating element has gone and will investigate futher but just wondered if enyone else with an Atten ST862D has seen this message an knew what it ment? Just incase its something else.

Strange Asus Z170-A memory config
Hi,
I’ve got an Asus Z170-A motherboard that supports 1 or 2 or 4 DDR4 memory Channel configs.
It has memory slots DIMM_A1,DIMM_A2, DIMM_B1, & DIMM_B2.
The manual says you can have:
Singe channel using DIMM_A2
Double channel using DIMM_A2 & DIMM_B2
Quad Channel using slots DIMM_A1,DIMM_A2, DIMM_B1, & DIMM_B2.
The only combination I can get the board to boot with is single stick in DIMM_B2 or two sticks in DIMM_B2 & DIMM_B1 ?? According the to manual this configuration shouldn't be possible.
I’m...

Re: Help with Intel AMT /ME
Thanks for clearing that up, I didn’t realise ME did more than just AMT.
Just a thought do you think it could be feasible to take an ME firmware version that has AMT and add it (make a Frankenstein Bios) into an existing commercial board Bios to get the corporate AMT features?
It seems such a shame that there is this separate sub-system in the PCH that could be possibly used for debugging but like you say if AMT doesn't have diagnostic capabilities then there's no point, unless someone could re-write the ME firmware to...Last edited by petemanuk; 12-31-2022, 10:20 AM.

Re: Help with Intel AMT /ME
Thanks for the info.
I get that AMT is an enterprise tool that needs Vpro, i've got the opensource version Meshcommander.
I just dont understand why Intel ME would be put on a motherboard then not give you the option in the BIOS not to use it, I'm guessing the out of band sub-system for ME is also built into the PCH on the motherboard.
My hope is that having a microcontroller sub-system built into the motherboard (ME) independant of the operating system would be a great tool for hardware debugging if only i could...Last edited by petemanuk; 12-31-2022, 07:36 AM.

Help with Intel AMT /ME
Hi,
I've been looking into the possibility of using Intel AMT (active management Tech) as a diagnostic tool for faulty motherboards. What I want to do is communicate with say no boot motherboard via AMT and see if it will give me any information as to what wrong (that's the theory :-)
I'm using an Asus prime H510m motherboard as a test bed, it has ME in its BIOS chip but I'm struggling to access it via LAN connection.
I have Meshcommander program the problem is I cant seem to find how to enable the ME bios extension (MEBX) on the Asus motherboard, I've tried...

Re: Need help with solder pot pls
Thanks all for the info.
Bit of a wild card i've seen a roll of roofing lead for a resonable price only thing i cant find what its actual composition is?? so may not be suitable for soldering, i'll post my findings as soon as i can get some more info (unless anyone else on the forum knows)
Thanks again.Last edited by petemanuk; 12-16-2022, 03:25 AM.

Need help with solder pot pls
Just bought a solder pot (actually a retangle 180mm x 140mm x 45mm) as i want to use it to take muilt pin connecters (288 pin) off boards so i can replace them, the problem is the tank/pot needs a lot of solder to fill it!!! and that's gonna cost a furtune. Would any one know it if it would be ok to put say a block of metal in the tanks to reduce the volume so i dont need to buy so much solder?
Thanks

BGA solder balls not connecting - help pls
So I though in my spare time I’d set myself up repairing motherboards mainly pin damaged lga1151 sockets types.
I’m using an achi ir sc pro rework station (gave up on my Achie ir6500 - don’t recommend)
I’ve managed to get my rework profile somewhere in the correct region (after a lot of trial and error) to get the old sockets off and reflow new ones back on again, the problems I’m getting is not all of the solder balls are re-attaching when re-flow occurs. I know this because when socket is removed pads still look clean and have no solder...Last edited by petemanuk; 11-16-2022, 05:31 AM.

Re: Is ITE IT8628E programable
Update - found out this chip is non programmable :-(
Being still quite the newbie at board repair i have questions. where does this chip get its firmware is it located in a region of the bios that it reads or does it come pre-programmed from the manufacture.
Thanks
