T-CON wiring hack for using not original LCD panel

I have this SAMSUNG LN32A300J1DXZA with broken screen for many months waiting for the same replacement screen model, but no luck after more than 6 months, but yesterday I got broken MAXENT with good screen but badly burnt out boards. The original screen is CHI MEI V315B1-L01, the one I try to use is CHI MEI V320B1-L04, the T-CON pinouts are not the same after I have looked up the spec sheet. I had to do some delicate soldering (I also have to use the original Inverter board from the old screen), but after 3 hours, the TV is now working with the new screen.
One less TV to the dump.

One question though - I thought "315" panels were 31.5", but "32" panels were 32" - were there any size issues?

Nice work there!! From where did you get the pin out for those T-con boards?
It's worth doing this job with a 32" TV? I don't think that I would attempt it, maybe with a bigger one.

Re: T-CON wiring hack for using not original LCD panel

I sat there and Ohm out all 30 pins of both T-CON boards to see what the differences are (luckily they both use the same IC CM2681A-KQ) because the first time it did not work and found out later that the pinouts on the panel spec sheets do not match what I have even though I get the correct version of the spec sheets of both panel. That is why I was up until 1 o'clock Ohming out the boards.
Both screen has the same frame size but the LCD panel itself is not the same.
I was going to give up when I found out it did not work the first time around, but then it becomes a challenge to me so I fought it through. Not sure I will want to do it again.

Re: T-CON wiring hack for using not original LCD panel

Well done! I have often wondered as I sit and look at various power supplies with 3.3V, 5V, 12V, etc. out that there has got to be a way to hack some of these to work across brands and models, kind of a universal replacement. Same for inverter boards and as you found out, T-cons. Seems that some of it would be possible if you were willing to give up some features like autodimming or such. Since Vizios are common on here and people are familiar with them...is it really necessary to have 100 different power supplies and 100 variations of the VW/VX/26/32/42/46 mainboard? Another misc thing I have learned along the way with DLP and LCD repair...I will never, ever, ever buy a Toshiba TV new. Between the bulb debacle on DLP's and inverter disaster on LCDs, I am not a fan.

Anyway, back on topic, would love to see more on Frankensteining TV's like budm did with this one.

Re: T-CON wiring hack for using not original LCD panel

You can use power supply module from another set as long as the power outputs and voltages are the same and will fit into cabinet, all you care is to locate the PS_ON pin, the rest you can measure the output voltage such as 5VSTBY, 24V, 12V, ETC. The DIMMING and the Backlights ON can be routed directly to the inverter board without using the power supply board as a junction points for them. If you can download the LCD panel spec, it will tell you all the pinout of the T-CON and the inverter board, the power and voltage requirement. I put 37" VIZIO power supply in my 32" Vizio, just have to make the bracket for it. I also use 5V 3A switching power supply for Linksys router to use as standby 5V because the 5VSTBY burnt up beyond repair, just carck open the wallwart and mounted the board inside and wired the 120V to the AC input. Alot can be done as long as you know the pinout.

Great thread just wonder if the other side ( tcon to panel could be played with ) or
maybe a job for bread board assuming the various ribbon clips can be obtained ?
eg ribbon in ribbon out using four instead of 2 ribbons ?
