Hello all ~
Thanks for the advice on this. Based on the overall consistency of the replies, I went ahead and ordered a full new set of LED strips. They should be here by October 13 or a little bit sooner.
After taking the tv apart, it was as expected in that approximately 1/2 the lights were blue (in varying degrees), but with over 30 of them degraded it only made sense to buy a full new set.
Note: None had actually fallen off.
I will post again after I piece it all back together and, hopefully, resurrect it. Thanks again, everyone.

Samsung UN48JU6700F (Curved) blotchy and faded image
I'm wondering if this type of display error (please see photos) can be fixed by replacing the LED strips or would that be an exercise in futility because the panel has been permanently altered.
Notes: It turns on every time. Sound is good too. I have tried changing all the display settings, power cycling it, and resetting it to factory mode. Even went into the Service Menu but nothing worked to resolve these blotchy and faded images. Blotches do not move. The degree of image fade (dimness) always stays the same. Picked this tv up for free so I have no insight into if it was handled...Last edited by kca; 09-19-2024, 12:28 PM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Thanks, nomore ~
That’s very interesting. Never saw that video before. I’m going to gather up some 9v batteries and give that a try. I’ve got the 100 Ohm resistor but may need to purchase the finer point probes.
But this seems like the easiest, most seamless way to test these various LED strips without the risk of damaging other boards or components.
Much thanks !!
I’m grateful you persevered.. I will too.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Yes, that’s the Catch-22.
But if I knew how to attempt a jump of the backlights on then at least that stands a chance of them coming on and eliminating them from the problematic picture.
It’s always frustrating when the fault design allows for the 5 red blinks to be EITHER the PS supply OR the backlights. That, at least, appears to be the case with the fault codes.
Would be so much easier if the backlights not working would produce their own, singular fault...

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Here are the voltages in detail on the primary connector:
First, the odds
1 (LD) = 3.6 (note, this pin does not have a wire leading to the main board: it is empty)
3 (GND)= 0.0
5 (B13v) = 14.7
7 (B13v) = 14.7
9 (SDA) = 1.0 (note, it only read 0.5 the 2nd time I measured it just now)
11 (SCL) = 3.7
13 (GND) = 0.0
15 (B13v) = 14.7
17 (B13v) = 14.7
19 (VAMP) = 14.7
21 (VAMP) = 14.7
23 (GND) = 0.0
25. (B5v) = 6.1...Last edited by kca; 10-21-2023, 11:59 AM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Okay. I’ll check them all again and list them in the next post.
In my original post, I didn’t make it perfectly clear but I had tested all of these pins (1 through 28) and the only one I found suspect was that SDA line I was discussing earlier in the thread. I’ll post exact voltages for all 28 pins to help clarify all of that.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Yes, it appears this model’s PS is designed to supply voltage directly to these dual LED cables via the two connectors. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the readings on both the middle left LED connector and the bottom left LED connector are 0.0 on all of those pins.
In other words, it appears that the PS is failing to supply these LED connectors and cables with the necessary voltages. But, could it also be that the failure of the backlights themselves might cause the voltages to be denied...

Here are the pertinent images of the PS board we're discussing:
Photo #1 = Entire PS
#2 = top left (primary) connector voltage chart
#3 = middle left connector chart (heads out directly to one of two LED cables)
#4 = bottom left connector chart (heads out directly to the other LED cable)
#5 = image of the two “twin” LED cables themselves...Last edited by kca; 10-21-2023, 10:27 AM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Yes, that is what I established a few days ago. No backlights appear. So now I’m trying to determine if the backlights are indeed functional before I either replace components on the PS board or just buy a new PS.
I can get a power supply board for only $42, but I want to prove that the backlights are operational before considering the PS purchase. I’ve read several posts that explain that the backlights can often be jumped on but I don’t know exactly which pins / resistors / boards...

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Given the pictures I posted earlier, does anyone know how I can safely force the backlights on re: this particular model Samsung tv?
I would like to prove or disprove that the backlights are still functional. What would be the exact steps that it would take to jump them on?

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Wondering if anyone can provide an answer to that last question as it pertains to this particular model of television (Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA).
I’m trying to determine if the LED panel itself has stopped working as opposed to the Power Supply board being the culprit.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Quick question:
I'm getting 5.7v on the PS connector that leads over to the main board. So that is fine. But when I pulled the two other connectors on the PS that both lead directly to the panel itself I get 0.0v on every pin.
Does that mean that the PS is not providing voltage to these connectors or could it mean that the tv senses the connectors have been pulled and it then automatically denies voltage at the PS level so that it never reaches the connectors in a purposeful way...Last edited by kca; 10-16-2023, 12:20 PM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Yes, I figure the processor is damaged on that original main board. Reflowing it had no effect. I tried it twice, actually, about 5 days apart from one another. Baked the board in the oven at 385 degrees for 10 minutes each time. That method has worked about 75% of the time over the years whenever the HDMI ports are the only thing defective on a set.
At that point the screen still lit up and I watched tv via the coax cable for a couple days until the picture quality drove me crazy. That’s why...Last edited by kca; 10-14-2023, 07:17 PM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Alright.
Good idea with the hair dryer heat. I’ll try that next. Hopefully that triggers something and narrows down the bad cap search.
There are no backlights. Those have been out for about a week now. When the original main board was in place (and the only problem was that the 4 HDMI ports were not functioning) then yes ~~~ I was able to disconnect the cable to that main board and get the backlights to illuminate the entire screen. I’m not sure why the backlights ceased...

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
In the process of a few more voltage tests, but I have a couple cap related questions:
1. I’m counting 11 electrolytic caps, 3 ceramic caps and 2 square box type caps on the cold side of the board. Are you recommending that I have to replace them all because there’s no definitive way to assess them?
2. Are we saying that the faulty cap or caps are preventing the LED lights of the panel to initiate and that’s why there is no picture on the screen and no discernible backlights...Last edited by kca; 10-14-2023, 06:36 AM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Thanks for the help so far. Nomoresonys ~ Here’s an update that will likely reorient us:
Put the original main board back in. Whereas this read 0.6v on SDA at the main board’s connector a few days ago, it now is reading a full 3.5v on both the main board connector side as well as the power supply board connector side. It all appears to be correct. Did not see that coming. Note: a few days ago, when I measured, I only did so at the main board connector.
I also plugged and...Last edited by kca; 10-13-2023, 10:05 AM.

Re: Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
UPDATE:
Checked all the caps on the power supply board. All OK. At that point, I measured the voltages at the exit connector of the power supply board with the end of the cable at the main board fully disconnected.
Now, the 2,6v reading on the SDA line is reading 3.6. So, with no main board in play, the power supply board seems to be fully functioning. All 13 voltages read at or slightly above the levels indicated on the printed circuit board itself. Note: The primary voltages are supposed...

Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
Hello all ~
I’m working on this Samsung 60” LED and purchased a new main board a couple of days ago that did not fix the 5 blink issue. The original main board’s HDMI ports (all 4 of them) failed to work and no amount of reflow remedied that.
This 5 red light blink code on the front panel LED is followed (about 15-20 seconds afterward) by an automatic reboot, and results in 5 more red light blinks. Then the entire cycle repeats itself indefinitely.
No picture. No sound.
I tested all the voltages coming out of the power supply...Last edited by kca; 10-12-2023, 05:29 PM.

That's true. This is best done in a dedicated toaster oven or the like that serves no other purpose.
