Well that's a bummer. The half that works sure looks great. LOL. Guess this one is headed to the junk pile. Thanks for the help!

Thanks tom and budm. Making progress! I have attached pictures. With left hand ribbon connected and right hand disconnected I get perfect picture on left half of screen. With left disconnected and right connected I get as shown in the picture. Definitely something wrong with the right hand side of panel / drivers / tcon. Hope this helps you guide me to next steps.

    Thanks.

Thanks. I went ahead and put another fuse in and disconnected the two ribbon cables. I powered it up and it does NOT blow the fuse. The TV stays on with green power light, backlight stays on until I turn it off. If I read your last comment right that indicates is probably the TFT drive IC's. Are those part of the Tcon or (gulp!) the panel?

Thanks budm. Pictures posted. I took a closeup of the inductor coil that seems to be a little discolored though I cannot tell for sure. Is there a way to test these? If I measure across them on the exposed terminals, both show 0 ohms. Is this worth repairing or should I be looking for a replacement board?

  • Sony KDL-46ex600 T Con fuse blows

I got this TV and it would power on, gave 5 blink error which indicates bad T Con. I found the 3A fuse on the T Con blown so I soldered a fuse holder with 3A inline and powered on the TV. The picture and backlight came on and showed "no signal message" and other info. The picture showed a lot of bleeding and blotches though the panel seems to be ok as far as no cracks or anything. After about 30 seconds the T-con fuse blew again and now it is back to the 5 blink error code.

There is no visible damage on the T-con board top or bottom but it doesn't seem to be displaying...

  • Re: Vizio VA19L Won't Power On

I have this same TV, VA19L, with a blown power supply. Several components are burned on the bottom of the board, to the point that I don't want to attempt a repair. I have found power supplies for VA22L. It is the same board number but the VA22L board is populated with a second set of inverter components (resistor, blue tant caps, electrolytic cap, transformer, connectors) whereas the VA19L only has one set of components like the power supply pictures posted earlier in this thread. My question is this...can I use the VA22L board and just not hook up...

  • Re: LG 37LC2D No picture, believe bad power supply

It certainly sounds like you have a bad solder joint in one of the repaired caps. Also, check and make sure you got the polarity correct on all of the caps. The problem you are describing is the same indication as when the caps are bad so it is highly likely you just need to go back and double check everything and reflow your solder joints....

  • Re: HP PL4260N plasma, sparklies after Y sus replacement

I just realized in my original post that I said 180V for Va whereas I should have said Va=60V and Vs=180V. Thanks for that catch. The panel says Vs=186V and Va=60V, the service manual specs say 180V and 60V.

Tom, I will try to swap the modules, going to be a challenge to remove them. They are similar to removing a tuner, two ground tabs and 8 pins to get unsoldered. It looks like both modules use Vs as input voltage. I see what you are saying about it being too high. I would suspect that Vsc DC pack scales...

  • Re: HP PL4260N plasma, sparklies after Y sus replacement

It seems this voltage problem could cause the sparklies and other problems, right? Would it be worth pulling the DC/DC pack off of the old Y sus board and replace the one on the current board with it? That would rule out bad pot. Or, any particular caps I should check?

I have a spare Y buffer and Z sus but thought I'd hold off on those until I get this voltage into spec. I don't know whether they would cause the sparklies anyway. About everything I know about plasmas is what I've learned from you and your writeups...

  • HP PL4260N plasma, sparklies after Y sus replacement

The TV popped and picture went out but had sound. Y sus fs2 fuse was blown. This TV model seems to have a lot of common Y sus problems that cause this so I put in an identical Y sus board from a donor TV. It started up great but I now have sparklies, mostly red, in dark areas of the picture. I set Vs to 180V and Va to 180V on the power supply per the service manual. I set Vzb on Z sus to 100V, Vsc on Y sus to 120V.

-Vy measures -245V but should be -200V. However, it is at the maximum adjustment point so I can't adjust it further. I need help fixing -Vy and eliminating the sparklies....

  • LG 42PM1M Screen burn in, possible to fix?

This is an LG plasma 720p (768) monitor, no TV tuner built in. I was given this TV by a friend who owned a fitness center. The TV was used to display info about upcoming events but unfortunately they had their logo and a few display elements onscreen full time, no screen saver, no rotation of the elements to different places on the screen. It was essentially a powerpoint running 24x7 for 4 years.

I can play a movie and it all displays fine except I get some "burn in" where the images were displayed and I get some amount of Tom66's "sparklies" throughout the screen....

  • Re: Vizio E-320VL Turns on stuck with Vizio logo picture

If you have a 47" it is almost certainly a different mainboard and completely different circuits and maybe even a different series. The symptom that was stated is a very common issue for Vizio TVs. Rather than tagging onto a thread that never had a resolution documented you would be much better off starting a new thread with YOUR model number in the title. That way, you will get the specific help you need for your model and it won't confuse others later when they read this thread. In fact, assuming yours gets...

  • Re: Vizio P50HDTV20A power supply - Vs problem

Ok, I pulled this TV back out of my queue and pulled the power supply to put it on the bench so I can hopefully repair it. I need a little help as I want to force the power supply on. A couple of questions first. I have a power pigtail from a different TV with a plug that matches this board connector with the blue and brown wire 120V inputs. Does polarity matter on whether the brown or blue is the hot or neutral leg of the incoming AC? This one is opposite of what the Vizio has and I can easily switch them around if necessary.

  • Re: Samsung 46" lcd ln46b650 vertical lines and a gridlike pattern on right half

I had a similar problem with this same model and it was the mainboard. I popped in a replacement from a TV with a broken screen and it fixed the problem immediately. I also have one with tab bonding problem where the picture starts out half dark and with lines and in about 10 minutes it pops in clear and perfect, especially if i give it a slight twist.

  • Vizio e421vo orange light but won't turn on - eeprom

Got this TV for next to nothing as a non-working clearance item that had been returned to the store TWICE! I was able to get it turned on a couple of times but usually it would just be stuck and non-responsive at the orange vizio light. It was classic eeprom failure on the vizio "ExxxVO" series of TV's. I bought an SO-IC eeprom off of eBay for $20 and after a delicate soldering job it now works perfectly. If you have one of these and decide to go this route you will need good magnifying glasses and a fine pointed soldering tip. Not a repair for the faint hearted or if you aren't pretty...

  • Re: Vizio VW32L HDTV20A Question

This is one of the Vizio models that is notorious for the failed LDO regulators, usually some flavor of an 1171. It makes them exhibit the orange to white then lockup where you have to unplug it to turn it off. But, sadly, even if you found and fixed your problem you still have a broken screen to deal with.

  • Re: best place online to get capasitors?

Panasonic came out with ultra low FR last year or year before but I haven't used them. I rarely (try to never) use anything except Panny, Nich, and Ruby low ESR.

For the OP this post is a good reference though not entirely up to date: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2280

As far as online places...digikey and mouser are two of the most popular and reputable in the U.S.Re: best place online to get capasit...ear before but

  • Re: best place online to get capasitors?

Mostly but not entirely true. First, Panasonic is as "high end" as the others you mention. Second, it is more important which series of capacitor that you buy from any manufacturer than it is which brand you buy, assuming you buy a good brand such as any of the three mentioned in this thread. Most electronic applications that are discussed here demand low ESR capacitors. Each of these mfrs makes general purpose caps and low ESR caps so you have to buy the proper cap, not just one that matches the voltage and capacitance rating....
