    Windows loses an hour on clock on boot every time

    I'm having an issue with my Windows 7 desktop. I dual boot Ubuntu on this PC and Ubuntu does not have this bug, only Windows.

    Every time I boot from cold, the clock goes back by exactly 1 hour. This started happening after daylight savings. I can adjust it forwards, or re-sync with the time server, and that fixes it until rebooting... switching to non DST timezone didn't work either (so I'm not sure if it's DST related or not)

    Has anyone heard of this before? It's driving me nuts.

    Is your bios clock reading the correct time?

      windows is doing the clock-forward/backward thing and writing it back - disable BST correction.

        You have the correct time zone set ? (UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

          Yup, make sure the BIOS clock matches the time its showing.

            Ubuntu wants the BIOS clock set to UTC. Windows wants it set to local time zone.

              I think you're right, Steve. It only seems to happen when Ubuntu runs. I followed these steps which should resync the time on every boot, hopefully resolving this issue:

                Linux and Unix wants UTC, windows wants local time. some parts of the UK are +/- (cant remember which) 1hr from UTC. it gets worse when you are 7 hours behind UTC.
                Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

                  Yeah, you need to manually add an entry to the registry to force windows into UTC mode. Archwiki has instructions on how.

                    I thought it was fairly easy to make Ubuntu set the BIOS clock to the local time zone instead of UTC. I've definitely seen that option in other distributions, including some that are based on Ubuntu.

                      Yes, you can, but IIRC it's not a "good idea" as this functionality isn't guaranteed to last forever.

                            This is *not* new to Windows 10, Windows 8x, Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

                            Windows XP likes to randomly change the time without my permission! (During the forth quarter and the first quarter of the year.)

                            And later versions may too, if Microsoft didn't get their act together! So, the original clock thing can't be anything to do with Satya Nadella.

                            But, what is new, even though not to Windows 10, is Microsoft making it difficult for the eastern US and any non-Pacific US or Canada region,
                            I have a hard time finding the time zone selection and seems as if Microsoft is trying to hide it from me! (Since at least Windows 8x)

                            So at least with Windows 8x and later, prepare for the clock to be behind by 3 hours or 2 hours for eastern US folks.

                              The clock thing regarding Linux, is a different breed, it's because Linux bases the clock on UMT, which is the same thing as western Europe time, IIRC! And FYI, it's not just an Ubuntu thing...
