My son clicked “Update and Shutdown” on a Razer Blade 14 (2022, RZ09-0427), closed the lid, disconnected the charger, and put the laptop in his backpack. The next day, it wouldn’t boot: only the green LED blinked, no fans, no keyboard backlight, no display. The chassis does get warm, so the CPU/GPU seems to get power.
What I’ve tried so far: disconnecting the main battery, CMOS reset with power drain (30s), using a different power adapter, and connecting to the monitor - same result.
I assumed that Windows Update was interrupted due to closing the lid and/or disconnecting the charger, which resulted in the BIOS being bricked.
On the motherboard, I’ve found two flash chips:
- GigaDevice 25LR256EYIG (WSON8, 32MB) – The official Razer updater contains a P480_306.rom file, which is 32MB in size, so I assume this should be the main BIOS
- Macronix MX25L6436F (SOIC8, 8MB) – I assume this should be the EC firmware
I bought a CH341A programmer. With the clip, I was able to connect to the MX25L6436F chip without issues.
With GD25B256EYIG, it was much trickier since it has no legs for a clip. I ordered a 6×8 WSON8 probe line and managed to connect using pogo pins, but only by pressing it down by hand, which may cause micro-movements. I was able to make a few backups, checksums matched, and I reflashed the official BIOS image successfully (verify passed).
The laptop, however, is still in the same state: blinking green LED and nothing else.
Has anyone faced this situation? Could it be that the BIOS didn’t program correctly because I was manually pressing the pins to the chip, or do I need to merge parts of my old dump (ME/DMI regions) into the fresh BIOS image for the system to boot? Or did the laptop overheat in the backpack, causing something physical to get damaged/burned?
