Check the disk for errors and do a virus scan. Then try installing SP3 for XP.

You can still get it from Microsoft last I checked.

When SP3 was released, I remember everyone saying that it would make everything faster.

According to Microsoft, SP3 should download through Windows Update. It can still be downloaded here:
              http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=24
There is also a CD image:

I've installed it on hundreds of PCs - including some older ones, and it's never made one of them slower than SP2.

it will be slower if your not stacked with ram.
it's caused by extra security(insecurity?) crap.

The OP has 1GB, which is plenty. I haven't found it to make any difference on machines with 1GB of RAM.

SP3 has slowed down every computer I have installed it on, including one with 2GB of RAM. I haven't seen a computer running XP with more RAM than that.

If you want to go a different direction , some of the Linux distros will run on older systems . I will post more if asked.

Distro watch would of been the link I would of posted. With a link to Wattos , I know it, and a few other distros are written to run on older systems . Ubuntu and many other distros of Linux wont run on older systems . If any one hear does not know , you down load an i.s.o. image , burn it to a disk and run it as a live cd/dvd to see if it will work with all your hard ware .
                                      http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=wattos
                                      http://www.ubuntu.com
p.s. Hear is the distro watch page for Ubuntu , with a link to there user forum . Ubuntu questions might be better answered there .

Now that I have your attention:

In the last few days, it looks like Firefox has changed their software terms so they are now evil and WILL sell your data.

I already use Palemoon for Win7 sometimes. Looks like I'll be switching to librewolf as well, as Youtuber Louis Rossman suggests. Palemoon still supports Win7, but sometimes pages don't work properly. The Google Chrome browser might also still work for Win7.

I will have no choice but to upgrade my Firefox, so that I can copy dozens of tabs into a document or spreadsheet, or go through the history to...

                                          Hi All.

Sorry ahead of time for the text wall. This is a strange problem and I have tried to explain it as best I can. I realise this is a hardware forum (mostly), but I am still not sure if this is even a hardware fault! I am hoping that someone more knowledgeable than me in the area of understanding installation logs, or someone that has had a similar issue in the past may have some ideas of what might be causing this.

                                          The issue:
Unable to do a clean install of any macOS versions supported for this model, even after fully erasing and formatting the internal SSD,...

MacOS: R|W Programmers like CH341x BINs..?
                                          by TrumanHW
For years I tried figuring out how to R|W BINs from my CH341x programmer.
From FTDI's pkg, Apps specifically claiming they work, I failed for ~8 years.

I'd expect many here figured it out (easily), but in case not ...
