I found these on a graphics card at work today. They are Sacon FZ caps without vent stamps. These ones are gonna be fun to overvolt.

Re: New more 'explosive' Sacon FZs
I hate Sacon FZ; the only thing you can rely on them to do is explode. I had a graphics card with these on them that blew up when I was watching a full-screen 1080p video -- it kind of startled me when there were two loud pops. It was a lesson learned. -

Nope, FZ are not solid caps. They are just regular sacons which will go off with a bang twice as loud as usual when they fail.
btw, I have already recapped the card with Ruby MCZ and Nich HZ, as well as replaced the heat sink with a passive one (the fan was dead). It seems OK just from a quick test.I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

Re: New more 'explosive' Sacon FZs
They do look like solid polys indeed. But knowing Sacon, they most likely aren't. Of course, we will see once you're done "overclocking" them.
Perhaps Sacon just decided to ditch the vents to get their caps to look like polys now. Will sure scare a lot of customers when eventually their caps fail and start popping like firecrackers. Sure they've already been doing that, but now with no vents at all...

If the gpu fan is original as it looks, Galaxy video card. No decals or labels in the first post's photo other than the fan.Stupidity should be a crime, especially for drivers. I have NO patience for them.Comment

Galaxy (now known as KFA²) Geforce G 210 with 512MB DDR3

edit: seems like it was also available with 1GB, or lots of websites use the wrong image for the card.

Re: New more 'explosive' Sacon FZs
Yup. It is indeed a Galaxy GF210. Galaxy love using Sacon caps i their low-end cards (and sometimes in their high end cards too - I've seen a GF 7950GT with them).I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

Re: New more 'explosive' Sacon FZs
Yup. They were loud. It sounded like a firecracker going off in my ear. You can see how bent the cans are on the three that exploded, probably because of hitting the concrete floor hard.
EDIT: Here's the card recapped in Ruby MCZ and Nich HN (not HZ like I said earlier), and with it's new cooler. I pulled the cooler from a dead FX5500. I was going to use a passive cooler, but it was getting WAY too hot.Last edited by c_hegge; 03-15-2012, 08:59 PM.I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

Yup, and it built up pretty quickly too. It didn't even take 1 second for them to explode once I applied 12V to them in reverse-polarity.I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

by momakaSo after using capacitor bungs to repair the rubber feet on two laptops, shown here:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=548
… and here:
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=585
… I was inevitably left with some paper rolls and cans from the Sacon FZ capacitors I “sacrificed”.
The paper rolls from these Sacon FZ caps looked absolutely bone-dry. The idea then occurred to me: what if I put a few drops of water on there? How (if at all) would that affect these already-failed capacitors?...-

by JunkrepairI'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.
I found this nice little description of the conversion:
Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633
It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...-

by momakaI've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.
This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire.... -
by momakaI did it again – I had to fulfill my inner desire to fix yet another old piece of hardware. This one is actually kind of worthwhile, too – it’s an EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GS AGP video card, model P/N: 256-A8-N542-T2. With the popularity of “retro” PCs from the Win9x to XP era going up, and the diminishing supply of decent AGP cards, it is expected their prices will go up. Or is it? I bought the this video card rather on the cheap side (~$9 USD shipped to my door), because the eBay seller listed it for parts or repair (and correctly noted the bad capacitors.)
So, here is the... -
