    Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed

Thank you very much for sharing how you did this.

I have the same TV with exactly the same chip burned and I had mine repaired according to this thread.

However I am not good at soldering at all. So instead of buying chips and soldering, I bought a pair of boards from taobao.com, the chinese ebay. I didn't really need a pair but they were sold in pairs. The price is only $20 for the pair of boards, plus $10 slow international shipping which took 2 weeks.

The boards are not new ones, but repaired ones with ugly flying wires. Anyway, they are in good condition and work. What's most important the price is unbeatable.

It's pretty ridiculous how expensive replacement parts and labor are in US.

Thats a good price for both boards. I sold my TV with these boards after the third chip blew on it. I changed the chip on the master twice and the slave once. All within about a two year time period.

                Re: 42PFL7422D/37 Service Manual Needed

                Hello all...

I tried to power up after the set being off for six weeks and completely unplugged from everything but I'm not getting anything onscreen. I get the blue power LED and the backlight comes on but no ambilight and no sound but I can't tell which input I am on so I don't know if it's even set to what was connected. I can get into the CSM/blinking light mode and get an error code 28 Matrix Ouput Processor, via the flashes and the text file that is dumped to a USB stick. I can't find any info on this code.

I do not see any bulging caps nor burned components or traces. When I first acquired the set a year or so ago, the main inverter was out. After replacement, I have had no other problems except a few months ago I plugged it in and it wouldn't display a picture. However, the next time I came home a few weeks later it was ok.

Any ideas how to proceed with testing/troubleshooting?

                Thanks!

                  Hello Badcaps Members!
I recently acquired a Phillips LCD # 42PFL7422D/37 for $70 from Craigslist. I have the same problem (no picture but has sound) but I noticed upon cracking open the unit that I have a different pair of Master/Slave inverters. Would anybody know which inverter design if less prone to malfunction.

I don't see any visible bulging on the caps or any visual burnt parts. I saw an exact pair on a new pair on ebay for $58 for the same unit. Are these pairs interchangable? The other design goes for $119/pair.

                  Any input is greatly appreciated.

If it is no picture but has sound - I had that failure when the slave was bad and master was OK. That's just a guess from past experience. If you can get just one cheap, that wouldn't be a bad move. I have not tried to swap pair for pair before. I do see there is someone selling the whole pair of these same inverter boards on ebay for $81 free shipping.

There are some simple things to check if you have a meter. You can check those fets (about 9 of them) on that board. There is a small white fuse. Of course I'd check the caps on the meter as well - out of circuit.

Hello everyone. A fresh noob here who joined just for this topic since my Philips just went belly up yesterday with the same symptom. I opened up the back and looked at the two inverters and nothing was apparantly wrong. No burned chips or glaring damage that I could see though I certainly don't claim to know what it is I'm looking at/for. Anyhow, I ordered 2 new inverters from Ebay. They look pretty straight forward to remove/install...just plug and play. For you experts though, is this true? Is it as simple as unplugging the connectors and then re-plug them into the new boards? Or is there some sodering involved?

Thanks everyone (great site and awesome advice!)!!

It's not always the inverter that's at fault. Sometimes the mainboard can be faulty as well. You could have taken pictures and posted them of the boards. This could have saved you from ordering boards you dont need. There could have just been a couple of bad caps you needed to change for $5.00. I really do hope it works out for you.

Uh oh...I hope that's not the case! I guess I did take it for granted that most of the things I've read here and elsewhere pointed to the same issue. I hope I didn't waste $119! I guess I'll find out in a few days...

As far as installing the new boards, is it pretty straight forward or are there any tricks to it??

It is pretty straight forward. Inverters will have power cables going to them that you usually just pull to remove and then push back in the same order on the new inverter. They also have 1-2 ribbon cables that you need to have perfectly straight and fully into the connector for those. Then finally 2 thick wires attached to a plug going to the backlight that is also usually just pull and plug the new one in. There shouldnt be any soldering required.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

My inverters came in today. I took out the old ones and popped in the new ones in just a minute or two. Glad to report that it worked! TV has been saved. I definitely could have saved a hundred bucks had I troubleshot a bit more and consulted more of you experts on this forum but I see it has saving a least a grand by fixing my TV and not having to buy a new one! Thanks everyone!

Has anyone seen this? Looks like part of the chip exploded but the pins seem fine. A spider was living nearby but doubt it had anything to do with it. I will try to replace the chip itself but wondering if something caused it to happen which may kill the new chip. So any thoughts on what could have done this? If the chip itself failed then only replacing it should do the trick but wanted to make sure there wasn't something else going on here. Thanks

Looks like you have a bad inverter. There is an update; I suggest replacing both master and slave with the latest revision boards.

I was thinking of just replacing the blown chip - are you meaning the board itself may have other issues? Or could replacing the IC do the trick? I know its not the latest revision but a $20 repair is much more tempting I could check the caps and fets on the board to see if anything is high esr or shorted.

Personally, I'd change the chip and sell the TV. It's a repeat offender. It may fix the problem for about a year and a half.
