    Sony shorted screen,fixed

Hi,thought I would post this in the hope it can save some tv's.

Sony KDL-42ex440,completely dead,no reaction on buttons etc,as if main fuse is blown.
Disconnected LVDS cable to t-con,tv comes alive,no picture of course.
Reconnect LVDS,disconnect one of two ribbons to panel,tv comes alive with halve screen, other side white.
Reconnect that ribbon, disconnect the other ribbon,tv completely dead again.

Looked at small PCB that's attached to panel along the edge, found that the 3 larger capacitors(one by each tab) measured 2.6 ohms.Suspected them to be in parallel.
Removed the capacitor closest to the ribbon cable connector, short gone and tv works perfectly fine again.

    Hope this will help somebody

Lol,super easy to find. I posted this more for awareness,as in "don't give up on panel too soon"
I fixed a few this way, some samsungs etc. Never had luck on LG with this.

It would probably be a good idea to replace that cap,so far I just remove them, never had one come back yet.

Can't remember the models,it's wide spread.
When in diagnosing I get halve screen results,I then measure all caps on those narrow boards. Been lucky with this often enough to make it an effort
No signs of damage to caps, they just measure very low ohms.

BTW, the failure mode for those MLCC is shorts or bad leakage resistance.

Nice work buddy, I recently had a 32" Sammy panel shorted ceramic and smd transistor changed with ones off a smashed screen (same model) and sorted it seems to be newer sets having his issue. Done a vid on it.

Sony PS4 ADP400DR - help needed figuring out shorted pads under capacitor C 31

                      Hi!

A friend of mine gave me a dead PS5 to look at. I am totally inexperienced, but when a damage is simple (i.e. failed DAP41 on PS4s, etc.), when replacing just the IC and the other very common failing parts of these consoles, problem is fixed. So I checked the voltage of the PSU - none was present. Model is ADP 400DR. I have a bunch of spare parts around, so first thing I did was to replace the IC DAP 053 (they seem quite expensive, so I put a replacement unit - TEA2016AAT. When plugged to the power outlet, 12V did come present.
So I reassembled the PS5 and pressed the power...

                      Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                      I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

                      by Yanleb
Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

                      D608, good
                      D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)

                      D865 RF101L4S, shorted (See warning 1 below)

                      Hi to all,
the owner of this machine gave it to me after having opened it to take off the dust from the inside, telling me that after that it didn't start anymore.
I found that one of the DrMOS (AOZ5016QI) on the CPUCORE was shorted between VIN and VSWH, and that one of the two n-mos connected to the power jack was shorted aswell.
I unsoldered the two shorted components and verified that there were no other short circuits, then decided to power the mainboard, firstly with the lab power supply, then with its original HP 200w charger, but the behaviour is the same, the board starts...
