    No Backlight on Toshiba 32HL67U

The other day while the TV was on, it made a noise and the picture disappeared. Sound still works fine. I investigated further today and it looks like the TV works, it just doesn't have a backlight. It seems as though this could either be an inverter board issue or something with the backlight on the panel itself. I'm thinking about buying an inverter board and seeing what happens when I replace it.

Does anyone know how to replace the inverter board on these, or have a service manual? Any other advice?

    Thanks!

Tow things you need to do before you go to buy any replacement

1- did you try with torch light to see if there picture on screen to see while sound can hear ?

2- post photo on whole boards of your Tv back to see how they are connected to each other

TV works (tried with a flashlight, can make out the screen being on), but there is no backlight.

I will try and take a picture of the TV sometime soon.

The file isn't corrupted, there is just no preview because it is not a PDF file. To download, scroll down past the preview window and click on the download link- I have attached a picture for you.

Yes, more than likely you need a new inverter (or repair the one you have).

Check all fuses on the inverter, I bet one is open.

It is a zip file and not a pdf file which is why it says may be a corrupted pdf file.

Best to start without the manual and follow Diah suggestion in the earlier post.

                      Edit
Is there any blinking led sequence or just sound and no backlights

Finally was able to open the tv and test voltages. Here is an overview picture of the boards.

                          And a better overview:

I started testing with the leftmost connector located on the top orange board (the cables, not the metal part connecting boards). Here's a picture of the orange board itself:

And here is the connector itself.

Here are the voltages on the connector:
                          VCC_LCD....5.1V on, 0 off
                          VCC_LCD....5.1V on, 0 off
                          3.3VD2.......3.41V on, 0 off
                          3.3VD2.......3.41V on, 0 off
                          3.3VD1.......3.41V on, 0 off

                          and on the next connector:

                          VCC_DDR....3.41V on, 0 off
                          6VD............6.39Von, 0 off
                          18VD..........19.61V on, 0 off

These are the next connectors. They are located vertically on the rightmost side:

                          18V............19.61V on, 17.97 off
                          40V............44.9V on, 42.4 off
                          Audio_VCC..28.7V on, 0 off
                          Power_SIG..3.28V on, 0 off
                          5V..............4.91V on, 5.00 off

                          24V_INV......23.9V on, 0 off
                          6V..............6.43V on, 6.46 off
                          12V.............11.87V on, 12.17 off

On the inverter, I only tested the VCC pins. They were all 23.9 volts

That appears to be my inverter. I put all of my voltage info above.

It behaves just like normal, except this is not backlit.

I briefly looked at it and only saw one fuse, that had no resistance, so I assume it is good.

Do you mean the resistance shows <1 Ohm, right?
You should have 24VDC at both ends of the fuse with ref. to the chassis if the fuse is good.

Fuse shows 24V (23.9V) on both sides.

                              Pin 12 (ENA) is 4.48V.

For kicks I tested pins 11-14

                              13...3.36V (DIM)

                              11...0.01V (ERROR-OUT)

Pins 14 and 11 do not have a wire corresponding to them on the cable.

                              Thanks for your help!

OK, you have all the correct Voltage and signals for the Inverter board to function, so you need new inverter board or you can try fixing it down to component level.
It is 32" TV so it is not worth that much.

Great, thanks for the info. I purchased this used inverter board for $17.79 on ebay. Hopefully it will work, not the end of the world if it doesn't.
