vizio m601d-a3r panel or tcon failure

Hello. I have a vizio m601d-a3r with a sharp panel. Trouble is a few horizontal lines and left side is quite dark. Backlight seems ok. I have tried cleaning/reseating the ribbon cables, but no change. Tab bonds don't seem to affect the picture either.

I am thinking bad panel, but want to get your opinion on whether you have seen this kind of failure with a tcon.

Thanks--I was thinking the panel also (gate drivers). I have read the long 70" vizio thread about removing gate drivers on one side. Not sure it applies to this panel, I might pull off the gate driver chip tab on the bottom of the left side just to see what happens.

Deffo panel failure. Try removing tabs but doubt it will make it any better.

Thanks again. At least I didn't pay anything for it--I did have to go pick it up though.

I don't see lines from your picture you posted. Looks like it could be the left side LED strips going out.
If you were to remove the panel, can you see if the left LED strip lights up?

Yes--backlight is uniformly illuminating. I was hoping from the original description of the problem that the "darker on the left" description was a backlight problem.

This is a really old thread, but my panel looks almost exactly the same as yours with the horizontal line in nearly the exact same place. Did you ever figure out if it was the panel or if the gate drivers were causing an issue?

I scrapped it as a bad panel.

Its a "panel issue"... it doesn't matter whither is a gate driver issue or "panel" problem (you threw something at the display, cracked the screen), neither are "fixable"... BUT the panel can be "saved" in these kinds of cases by removing the tabs cables from the failed side. This has been done by a lot of people and lots of thread "post this time period" that "discovered" this "technique". IF you are using the tv for just "normal viewing", odds are that you won't notice the difference between a "saved tab operation" and the original tv display.

Great, thanks budwich! Time to do some surgery on this guy! Found it in the garbage so if it doesn't work out I'm not out anything but my time.

For posterity, I was able to get things working again with the tab trick! Here's the steps for anyone that stumbles on this in the future:
