  • Re: LG 47LN5400 Replacement backlights

Something you can do to help with the longevity is to not use the cheap double-sided tape often provided with those strips, but instead, use thermal conductive double-sided tape. It is marginally more expensive and will help in the long term.

  • Re: Vizio M60-C3 won't turn on. Is it the main board?

If one side of the screen is not displaying correctly is still the mainboard. You have 2 BGA chips under the heatsink. I recommend you reflow both, if you still have issues you may have to replace or re-ball one of the chips.
I have a video on the repair of that exact problem. It's not always a replacement, sometimes you can get away with reflow or re-ball so if it doesn't work you may not have reflowed the board properly and I would suggest you try again.

You might have a faulty panel, but you might still be able to fix it by blocking the correct clock lines.
Check out this video from frugal TV repair on how to do this.

  • Re: Vizio M60-C3 multiple symptoms leading to death

There are 2 common problems. #1 is bad caps on the power supply. Check out the power supply. If no bad caps then most likely problem #2 is the mainboard. In this case, you probably need to reflow, reball, or replace the processor chips under the heatsink.

I made a super quick and easy-to-follow video tutorial on how to identify the bad board for these model tvs without needing equipment, but instead just based on symptoms. This should help tons since you can see what I talk about visually. Hopefully, it doesn't break...

  • Re: Sony XBR49X900E no picture

If you can't get the color pattern test, then it would mean something is probably wrong with the T-con or panel provided you are getting the 12v to your T-con. Are you getting the 12V to your T-con?
Maybe try another T-con. I know it sounds dumb but you are trusting someone else's work and parts. So to rule out any mistakes on their end I would say get a new T-con from a reliable source. If that doesn't do it then it's possible although rare that you have a bad panel.
Have you looked at the surface mount components on the address boards...

  • Re: Vizio M70-C3 ... Help with Diagnosis

Yeah agreed you probably got a bad mainboard.
I would say don't heat your mainboard, actually, reflow it so you don't have to keep heating it every week to get it working.
Lots of info on that in the forum and on youtube.
If you don't want to or don't have the tools, then send it out for servicing. Better to do it right once than only half-fixed several times.

  • Re: Vizio M70-C3 ... Help with Diagnosis

    You said this

"The screen in the video is at least showing half the screen lit up. My screen is just completely dark. The half-screen digital snow I got was only up for a minute and then the whole screen was dark after I shut down and restarted the TV."

That is 100% mainboard. Half screen showing digital snow = mainboard 10 times out of 10.

You might be able to get away with reflowing the BGA chips on the board, I recommend you do both even though technically only one needs to be because...

Weird, renaming it should have worked.
One more thing you can try is with the flash drive plugged in, and power disconnected press and hold the power and volume down while holding it plug-in power. Don't let go until the update starts taking or the light turns green.
This will do both a hard reset and firmware update/pairing. Sometimes if a board gives me trouble this helps but now always.

Nomoresonys. In your case your mainboard is not paired, the orange and green blinking lights indicate you need to pair the mainboard.
Download the software from sony support onto a flash drive and follow the instructions in comment #2 of the thread.

As for everyone else, something else that you can do with these TV sets is disconnect the ribbons from the mainboard going to the T-con board. This should trigger the color pattern test. In doing so you can either confirm the mainboard is the issue or rule it out.
    At least I...

  • Re: Gigabit Gtx 980ti garbage display

That looks like it could be memory corruption. It is semi-common for these cards to get Ram failure, but also if it is a ram failure then at least it's fixable. Are you familiar with Mats Mods? It is a program you can run on your card that will test the Ram for you and tell you which one is bad if one is bad.
If not I highly recommend you watch a video from Tech Cemetry he goes over this in detail. It's a bit of a process, but what isn't when working with graphics cards.

  • Re: How to Fix your Vizio M470NV and M550NV

I don't check the thread that often so I am sorry if I am not getting back to you guys quickly.
I did want to point something out in the last question from Steve_Rogers_1970

The M550VSE is a completely different board with completely different parts.
This thread does not apply to it.

That failure you have is most likely software-related.

Reflow it again, you most likely didn't reflow correctly. make sure to use flux

Haha, I like that it's the new standard. Nick's got a service, it's probably BGA.

While that is true for a large portion of our services, that is not always the case. But in this case yes neilc6 is correct 9 times out of 10 for these models that will be the issue.

  • Re: Sony XBR-55X930D - Stuck in svc/test mode? How to fix?

When you get the color pattern test on a Sony TV like this, it means the T-con is not receiving info from the mainboard. Not because the mainboard is broken but because it's not plugged in. This means the ribbons are loose, or not aligned right. However when that happens the mainboard is no longer paired with the rest of the TV, and you will have to pair it again. In order to pair it, you will have to do what bruce mentioned which is download the software from the Sony website linked below:

  • Re: How to Fix your Vizio M470NV and M550NV

I would not advise you to do it if all you use is top heat. Use bottom heat as well. In fact, most of your heat should be coming from the back of the board. If you have a heat plate or preheater you can use I highly recommend that and then use your top air to help assist for the last part of the reflow after your board has had a chance to heat up close to temp.

So if you don't have a proper rework machine and you need to do this on the fly, I would suggest have your board preheated to a minimum of 150c and then reflow the...

Congratulations, you have just diagnosed your power supply board and or backlight as the culprit.

What you mentioned you have read regarding jumping pin# to Pin# does not apply for any Samsung LED TV manufactured between 2011 to today. You must have read about a Samsung plasma power supply troubleshooting which is designed differently and can not be used to troubleshoot LED models or other boards from different manufacturers.

Now that you know that your power supply board is...

Sorry I didn't see this question until now, but most likely yes. However, you may have an upside-down picture or mirrored picture in which case you can go to the service menu and change the panel.
Take it one step further if you have a 55" set but only the 50" version of the mainboard is available for sale, it should still work, and if the screen isn't perfect, go to the service menu and change the panel type until it works for you. Big tip here though, if it's a UN50KU type board that doesn't have...

    Great link!
Careful though, make sure to be patient. Don't unplug the set willy nilly. That can break the board. I suggest watching the entire video and then going back and following the steps.
