Vizio M470NV will not turn on

While watching the TV there was a pop and it powered off. Now while plugged in the vizio logo will be orange but the unit will not turn on. None of the boards have any obvious defects. I have replaced the remote batteries, tried the manual power on button and replaced the power supply board with no luck. Any suggestions?

Upload good clear pictures of the whole backside of the TV so we can see all the boards and how they are connected together will be a starting point.

Have you taken any voltage readings on the power supply to see if any are missing.

I agree. And I am working on getting the voltage readings. Thanks

Re: Vizio M470NV will not turn on

So far I am getting 5v out of all 5 of the 5v outputs. I am not getting anything out of the 12v outputs, but I believe this is because I am not tripping the power on circuit correctly. This is a new power board btw, my first troubleshooting was to replace the power board. I have not tried the 145v outputs yet (Though I had a few EE classes back in the day I am a novice and teaching myself as I go along).

Re: Vizio M470NV will not turn on

Take a 1k Ohm resistor and jumper PSon or PWRon to STBY 5V. Take another 1k resistor and jumper BLon to STBY 5V. Do not plug any boards into the power supply, just leave the backlights connected. Plug the power supply in and you should have the backlights turned on and all voltage rails up and running.

Here is how the power thingy goes: The 5V STBY power is always on, regardless if the TV is on or not. That goes to the main board. You turn the TV on, the main board sends the power supply a PSon and BLon signal. The power supply turns itself fully on and the TV is up and running.

If the main board does not send PSon, you can press the On button on the TV all day long and nothing will happen. So verify that the main board is sending a PSon signal >2.5V to the power supply. If there is no PSon signal there, you need a new main board.

Re: Vizio M470NV will not turn on

Okay, So I was able to jumper a 5v to the power_on pin (fourth on from the top) and got 12v on all 3 of the 12v pins. When I jumpered a 5v volt to BL_on I got nothing from the backlight. Just to confirm is BL_on 2nd from the top or third? (see most recently attached picture) The first is hidden by the plastic retainer and the Power_on label takes up two pins. Also, originally the Vizio logo (stby light) would glow orange when plugged in, but no longer does. I still get the feeling I am missing something.

                        Thanks all

                          There's some information here:
                          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16852

When you attempted to bring on the backlights what voltage was at the Led terminals?

Following the recommendation of a previous post, I left the led terminals plugged in. I will unplug them and try to check the voltage

You can leave them plugged in but measure what voltage is present at the terminals as you attempt to come out of standby. What voltage is there and if so what does it drop to.

                                Edit
Do you have a picture of the LED on board connector you can post showing the legends

I'm sure there was quite a discussion on the led board within the last few days that budm was helping someone with. I can't really discern any details of the board from your earlier photo.
