Re: Sony KDL-55EX640 (630) DEAD SET
good update lol
I'm happy with how it has resolved so far. When I initially opened it and saw the state the power and main boards were in I was expecting the worst from the panel (although it looked in good shape cosmetically) as well.
I noticed if I swapped the ends of the second bigger LVDS cable it made a difference to the weird speckles, still something wrong, but less noticeable somehow. I found a little nick in the edge partway along the cable, didn't look like it made it in to any of the conductors, but I taped it up anyway and cleaned all of the connectors and cable ends.
If that cable was good, plugging the end that previously went to the T-CON to the mainboard shouldn't have caused any change in image right?
In addition, after reassembling, I also think I had something shorting out around one of the bonds because there was a bar which changed from normal image to flickering bar. I reseated everything correctly and that has gone, touching on the bond for that part of the panel didn't seem to reintroduce this fault, so I think all good at this stage.
Put it all back together and the strange red bits are gone.
Will need to order the S101 IC and work out that zener value next. Some other monitors with same IC had a 5.6V zener in that location.
Thanks for your help once again BUDM.
Photo doesn't do 55" justice. This thing is large!
