    Xenius LCDX42WHD89(A) stuck on standby

    Hi guys,

Thought I had myself an easy one here but it seems there's more to it.

The blue light is on and it wasn't coming out of standby so I bust it open to find myself a familiar vestel 17PW26-3 board with visually bad caps.

I've replaced the caps and the problem remains, I had a spare board which I fitted and that didn't cure it.

I have noticed that the Optical Out on the other board is flashing away, I've tried to google what this means but I got nothing.

    Has anyone come across this?

    Cheers

Edit: I recently read something on here about the -3 on the vestel boards being for sizes 32 and 37 not 42, and by that reasoning my TV should have a -4 board in? I think it was tom66 who mentioned it. But surely it came with this board I took out? for it to have bulging capacitors. Confused now haha.

been reading lately, how he eeproms get corrupted, from trying to use tvs with faulty caps, the eeproms seem to be getting faulty data, because of the bad caps.

I'll try and replace the eeprom and see where I end up, if I can find one haha I seem to have trouble finding them.

I think I've found the problem. Not sure if I'm capable of repairing that. Are the black ones just a set value? I thought all surface mount resistors had a number on them.

Just noticed how bad that first picture is, ignore that one.

what was it a bad measurement on the resistor?

The 2 resistors, well I assume they're resistors with the marks around them. It was much blacker than that but I cleaned it up before taking the picture.

They're much cheaper on eBay, it's just finding the right one, there's so many different variations it almost makes each board look unique.

I've checked the psu, all seems fine that end. I've also checked it with a replacement board that I had, still the same fault. The PSU did have bad caps but those have been replaced.

It's impossible to decide which to buy, does anyone know if it matters if it's from a 26", 32", 37" or 42" tv? if all the parts match up would it work?

guess you have to match up the number on your sticker exactly, every place I call, it seems, they say that, last guy said they may look identical but the software is different.

I thought as much, I couldn't find one exact. I found one 2 digits out and took a risk. Will see if it works. Fingers crossed!

Hope it works, if it does, I might try it, some of the boards with slightly different numbers are like half the price of my number.

Well the board arrived today and it works, sort of. The TV comes on fine but there's an issue, the side buttons don't appear to work, even when I press the power switch the blue light remains on. When I turn it on, everything is fine on screen it's just the menu pops itself up and the volume turns itself down, when I turn the volume up, it stays at the level for a min and then turns itself down again.

Re: Xenius LCDX42WHD89(A) stuck on standby

I've noticed, the volume will be constantly trying to go down unless I interrupt it by pressing a button then everything will function correctly for a few seconds and then bam! volume down again.

It may sound like a silly question but on top of ensuring the board matches the panel, would it have to be matched up with the side buttons too?

Check the resistance between the switches' legs to see if it shows any Ohms reading, it sounds like the switch is stuck.
You did not notice this problem before the TV went out?

I thought it might have been a stuck button too until I noticed the power button turns the blue light on and off with the old board in and not with the new. Also it's not just the vol down, if I leave it for a while with the volume down constantly on, it will eventually change to something menu.

It's really strange. I never saw the TV on before, I had the set given from someone who couldn't work out what was wrong with it, he told me it had a power board issues but it doesn't.
