Samsung LCD TV LN46C630 wont turn on

A few weeks ago my TV made a loud pop while we were watching it and turned off (and wont turn back on). I haven't had time to look into it until the last few days, that's why I waited until now.

The pop sound made me think it was a capacitor (and some internet searches seemed to imply that was a common issue) but I've looked over it multiple times and none of the capacitors seem to be blown.

I follow the steps in this thread (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28593) but when I disconnected the main board from the power supply and plugged in the TV I didn't get any noticeable backlight, so that seems to imply the power supply is bad. I'd rather not buy an entire new one when it's most likely just a single part that's bad, but I don't know the best way to determine what the issue is. I never had the screen flickering issues that I have read about with this model.

Unfortunately I thought I had a multimeter sitting around at home, but I can't seem to find it. So for right now I can't use that in troubleshooting (I know that removes lots of options) but I might be able to get a hold of one soon.

Picture - not great quality but can at least see most of the capacitors and see that they look fine.

I need good clear closed up pictures of the board in 1/4 section so I can clearly see the components on the board. The blown up source you heard can be from blown transistor, all the small blue snubber high voltage (>1000V) cap.
I cannot read the model number of the board, can you post the P/N of the board, it should be something like BN44-XXXXX, the other post shown modle # BN44-00341B.
you also must have the meter to do the resistance and voltage checking.
BTW, do you have soldering tools?

If it's deader then a door nail, power supply without question!! Unfortunately 98% of all advice is to always replace the caps, which is a logical decision. However, there are always other components on power supply boards that DO fail and can be extremely difficult to diagnose. Bad caps are usually dead obvious with blown tops etc....

I would just replace the board in this case unless something really jumps out at you!! In which case you just have to ask yourself, " is this panel worth the cost of a replacement board to me? "

In a lot of instances you may find a good used board from a reputable supplier like shopjimmy. Which certainly makes it worth it!!

Good luck my friend!! Keep us posted

The P/N is the same, BN44-00341B. I do have soldering tools and I thought I had a multimeter with them which is why I'm confused as to where that is.

Look real close at those small blue disk cap to see if any of them have any burnt mark, also those components mounted on the heatsink.
BTW, since you do not have meter, then you cannot tell of the fuse is blown or not either.

Re: Samsung LCD TV LN46C630 wont turn on

Unfortunately it seems that shopjimmy is out of stock on these boards right now, I have no idea what their typical restock time for older parts is.

As for the blue caps, none of them seem to have any issues that I can see. I'll see if I can borrow a multimeter in the next day or two (if I can't find the one I own I'm going to buy a new one, but probably won't get it right away, need to actually figure out what I want).

If I can find an entire board that is still way cheaper then using any local repair shop (something like bare minimum price of 180 before parts and any labor over an hour).

Remove the power supply board and look for burnt marks on the bottom of it especially on the components that mount to the heats sinks. Sometimes the solder connections go bad and draw an arc and make a loud pop, the connection then opens up possibly damaging components.

I did see that there were a number of threads talking about it, lots of them seemed to have picture and/or sound just with no backlight, while mine had no picture or sound at all, so it didn't seem like they would be super helpful (I did read a number of them though).

                    Hi Scou,

I fixed one of these sets a while ago but the damage to the power board was obvious.
I had to replace the diode at location DP810 and the capacitor at location CP811. The diode was burned in half and the cap was burned as well.
You might check to see if the diode is shorted.
You'll need to check the fuses as well. My notes don't show if I had to also replace the fuse.
Good luck. Mine is still going a year later.

                    Mike

That's just a bad photo angle. Its the white putty stuff used to keep everything in place, from that angle makes it look like a hole in it.

Turns out my local repair place will order parts at no surcharge, so I just bought a new power supply through them for quite a decent price. Just don't have the time right now to do all the testing needed to fix the old one. In about a month I'll end up with a lot of extra time, maybe I'll try to fix the board then and see if I can sell it or something (or hold on to it as a backup).

Anyway installed a new board and everything works fine. Thanks for the help.

I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

                                  Hey everyone,

This power supply board is hard to find but there are repair kits available. This board had a blown fuse, FP801S, blown PFC MOSFET, QP802CS and ceramic cap, CP809. I replaced them with parts I already had and tested the rest of the parts that would've come in the repair kit and they were fine. I powered the board up on the bench expecting, in typical Samsung power supply board fashion, to see all my output voltages but, nothing. 0 volts on CNL801, CNM801 and CNT801. The only thing I have is 170vdc on the filter caps. No standby voltage either.

                                  Anybody...

Samsung UN65KU6290F (May 2017); received from local Buy Nothing group. Was listed as "just went dead" and they wanted it gone. I brought it home, didn't notice anything visually wrong with the power supply board, looked up the cost of a new one and that's about as far as it went. Family was tired of tripping on the foot of the set so I decided to dig in and repair or toss.

Can't believe that I didn't check it earlier but I found the main 8 amp fuse blown. Jumped across it with a 10 amp blade style fuse and you can see that it literally exploded inside the second I plugged...
