I've recently had help from budm my self, same type of cap and same problem, the way I confirmed it was by plenty of research on the net and a simple look over the power board to see if this very cap had been used else where, his suggestion was indeed confirmed by the above two methods.

For what it's worth I had a fuse and an electrolytic cap that also needed changing so make sure nothing else has blown.

Thanks lads, i dont think there is a corner of the net i havent searched, the cap isnt used anywhere else on the board. They sell the boards on ebay and ive even emailed the seller and asked what the values are! I doubt he'll reply!
I obviously dont want any fire hazards from incorrect components so its a waiting game i suppose

The first tv I worked on would not power on. Not knowing anything about tvs at the time I took the cover off and plugged it in after looking for visual damage. After trying to turn it on a couple times I blew a hole through the varistor. It looked just like your cap there. I haven't been this lucky since with that sort of thing but After I replaced it the tv works fine and has worked for the last year and a half.

Also, I have a 32PFL power supply at the house right now. I haven't read enough into your post to see what you're trying to figure out though. Do you need a part number?

Hey Ashroyer, thanks for the post. I'm trying to find out the values of the component blown so I can order and replace it. It was damaged so the values are illegible. I have a 42pfl so I'm unsure as to whether your board and mine are similar. The location of the cap is c502

There is no C502 on the board I have. Can you send me a pic of the board where it would be. Also give me the number of the component. I know when I replaced the varistor I couldn't find an exact I had to get something close as I could. Maybe with a cap go bigger to be safe. But lets see first.

His blown component is the high voltage snubber cap for the PFC MOSFET, not Varistor.

I bought a new cap from ebay, havent installed it yet but ive attached pics of the specs. It is however a bit smaller and thinner.
I'm wondering now what risks will come into play if it is the wrong cap. I've searched the net but cant find any info on my board so it'll have to be trial and error

So I soldered the new cap in, connected everything back up and the tv powered up as normal. Happy days, I'll monitor it for a bit just for peace of mind. Cheers lads

No worries, I presume it was the right cap after all and it's not under stress? As I said I'll keep an eye on it, switch it off after use etc
