  • Re: Dead Vestel 17IPS20 power supply repair (OK fuse, no shorts)

Hi, been a while since I've been here but just wanted to confirm that I had the exact same issue as the OP (thanks to the OP for clear info), so it seems to be another common fault with this power supply. I've now fixed the power supply as described and all is working OK (touch wood), just another thing to look out for if your having problems, thanks.

  • Celcus 39" LED tv, new board issue.

Hi, I have the Tv above, unfortunately the main board has failed (won't start up the Tv), so I've tried two others from a JVC and Hitachi Tv, now what I get from these is the TV starting up, the back light comes on displaying the logo for each manufacturer and then it switches off, I then press the remote power button and it's the same thing with the LED power light constantly flashing, so I guess there's some kind of incompatibility problem going on, I just down know what, any ideas how to get this to work please?

  • Re: Pioneer PDP LX5090 fans not turning on?

Thank you, I've read else about them not coming on but considering the age of this thing I think anything to help preserve the life has to be a good thing, it will be interesting to hear and see if this can be modded, or better still, adjusted in the service menu so they come on at a far lower temp, it must be hitting 60+ degrees Celsius I think, thanks again.

  • Pioneer PDP LX5090 fans not turning on?

As the title suggests, I've recently purchased this for £80 and all works just fine but I have noticed the top getting very hot and I would of thought the fans would of kicked in long before this temperature, is there anything wrong with the fans or is this normal? I've read only the little amount of info I could find on this issue and nothing has helped, any ideas are welcome, thank you.

  • Re: What fuses can I use in a power supply?

That's interesting, the fuse was only used for about 30 seconds just to see if the Tv worked, which of course it did, I did try Maplin for the right fuse but they don't stock it as with many "usual" things, go figure.

Ahh, as suspected hence asking, it was a T5A250V ceramic that had blown so I guess a normal mains plug fuse won't cut it, thanks for the help guys, Andy....

  • What fuses can I use in a power supply?

Hi, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. I have a power supply from an LG LCD Tv that had a blown/shorted main capacitor taking out the main input fuse, the cap is now replaced but I don't have the right replacement fuse(a leaded 5amp 250v), so in it's place, for testing at the moment, I have used some old brackets from another dead power supply and used a 5amp, 250v mains plug type fuse, Tv now turns on so all is fixed, all I want to know is can this fuse be left in place or is it best to change it, if it needs to be changed back to an original type, what would be the difference between...

  • Re: Sony KDL-40BX420 strange back light issue.

This is the thing, it seems perfectly fine now, it seems that just by removing it and replacing it has some how resolved the issue, I have no idea what it's done but it's been fine since this morning.

Any ideas what may of been the problem?

OK, so the inverter shield is back on, all components checked very closely with a magnifying glass for any dry joints and has now been working fine pretty much since this morning without issue. It's a strange one, I can only think it to be either an earthing issue or the possibility of a temporary short somewhere: maybe the pins used to connect the inverter to CCFL tube a little bent???? I don't know but for know it's working and all seems fine, I'll keep on using it and see if it rears it's ugly head again.

From reading on Ebay and looking at this video, it seems this particular Tv suffers from inverter issues.

Incidentally the Tv has been on for nearly an hour now, all good so far so I think I'm going to resolder a few joints and see how I get on.Re: Sony KDL-40BX420 strange back li...sUFb0vV0[/url]

  • Sony KDL-40BX420 strange back light issue.

Now this one is proving a pain, basically the Tv will turn on and give a picture but after a short period of time it will switch off needing to be unplugged from the mains to restart it, this period of time can be almost instant or after 30 seconds, maybe a minute, maybe five minutes, can even be longer. I've just done a little testing and have a stable 25V to the inverter, indeed disconnecting this has proved to stabilise the Tv, you can see the menus and such like faintly appear until it auto-powers down to standby and then can happily be turned back on, so for sure there is an issue with the...

  • Re: Entering service menu 17MB35-4 Toshiba/Hitachi main board.

Thank you guys, just been into the Toshiba service menu and I see no option to change screen type or size so it's leaving little hope for the Hitachi version but of course yet to try, it could be different so fingers crossed.

  • Entering service menu 17MB35-4 Toshiba/Hitachi main board.

Hi, I have the above board in a Toshiba 40BV700B which has a faulty DVB tuner meaning the Freeview service won't work, when this particular EXT is selected the Tv will also shut down in 30 seconds or so giving a constant blinking white light only reset when mains power is disconnected, indeed when turning the Tv off from any other EXT it will show the same symptoms. My question is this, I have a spare board that came from an Hitachi 32" Tv, it works in the Tv exactly the same way with the same menu system but does give the picture a distortion not too dissimilar to a Samsung LCD if the wrong...

    Photos of said IC.

When switched on, there is a patch of white that glimpses before the Tv powers down, unplugging the power lead to the board will produce an even bigger white patch....

OK, so after some close looking, taking voltages etc I've found a blown chip on a board, second right at the top along the screen, Z-board I think, I guess it can be carefully removed and replaced but not too sure why it might of blown, any ideas?

I'll get a photo or two done in a moment.

I do agree with you but I have had good success in using this method in the past, one thing I do still find a little strange is that I've disconnected both the Y-sus and X-sus from the power supply yet I still see the same error code, it's supposed to be a scan IC or sustain issue, if they're out of the equation why is the Tv still acting the same way?...

So I've removed the PSU and as far as I'm concerned all components measure out fine using the diode setting, nothing blown or obvious so it's voltages tomorrow(I would do it sooner but kids around off school, out tomorrow).

Hi again, as of yet I've not tested any voltages as the set tries to turn on but I have disconnected the power from both the Y-sus and X-sus boards and I'm still getting the three red flashes followed by a pause(slightly strange as the service manual says a possible scan IC fault or a sustain issue), seen as it's only the logic board and mains connection board still connected, I'm guessing there's a power fault with the PSU, I shall look a little further later but any ideas on this would be useful? thanks, Andy.

Thank you, it says either a scan issue or sustain, I've checked the scan ICs visually and they all look perfectly fine, nothing obviously blown and I've checked all the components I can while in-situ of both the Y-sus and X-sus, all seem fine, I've also checked a few from the PSU. Now that I don't have to worry about this tamper switch I can turn the thing on and do some proper checking so I'll get back on here and let you know my findings, thanks....
