Thank you! Very useful and informative video, has opened my eyes that it's really much more complicated than I initially thought.
But equally the reward if I manage to fix it will be so much greater!

(most interesting thing is probably that the measured 2.8V isn't DC, and that there's a reason there are 3 voltage lines present. might be a good enough excuse to finally buy an oscilloscope)...

Thank you for the effort. The chip is CY8C21345, some sort of programmable IC. What's most confusing is that all mentions I was able to find mention that it's for an automotive use.
However, I was able to find a document "q113_productxxguide-258849.pdf" online (attached are just relevant pages from it) which mention that this chip has CAPSENSE IO, meaning it expects some sort of capacitance/capacitive impedance on it's inputs.

Ribbon is unfortunately not amongst us any more. My current ideas are either to figure out how to trick chip's inputs, or to buy conductive...

Maybe I've misspoken, it's impossible for me in this moment in time, as I have none of the mentioned. Oh, and also patience.

So I'm still trying to figure out what does that chip expect on them inputs so I can trick it....

So I'm again back on this after a couple of days.
I've tried soldering the tracks, but they were so tiny that it was of course impossible. With soldering iron on only 200°C lines disintegrated immediately.

Then I made a (simplified) drawing of touch contacts, maybe someone will get some ideas on how this all works.
Yellow lines on the first image are cable lines going into J4 on the second image.

And as I cannot find any capacitive touch button on AliExpress that is chipless, my current idea is to order some of the sticky copper tape and try recreating this...

C'mon people, we can't let my wife be correct that I'll never be able to repair this coffee machine! I'm sure somebody here knows how to test and replace the capacitive touch buttons/sensors.

I've watched a couple dozen YT videos, some say voltage increases, some say volts decreases, other talk that change in capacitance is what is measured, some mention the rate of dropping volts is different with&without finger so the time is important... The more I look into it, the less I know about it, and it's the simplest part of the machine, a simple goddamn switch. I just want to DIY something...

Oh, and I forgot to add that I have also downloaded datasheet of the chip that is connected to J4, the CY8C21345, which just made me even more confused. Apparently there's an I2C communication with this passive capacitive touch buttons, that just doesn't make any sense in my mind....

Now I need to buy also hair straightener with the same cable so she can curl-straighten-curl-straighten-curl-straighten..., to make the most of all 300 cables! Maybe expand in hair brushes and dryers aswell......

I can't seem to get any hits on Aliexpress, just on some sites where minimum order is 300 - although wife has tendency to destroy things, that is just too much cables.

But I'll keep looking!...

I've had similar idea, unfortunately to contact them via their website, one of the mandatory fields is the "purchase date", which immediately just triggered something in my brain so I just closed the page -and this was just on the first page, and second one is indicatively called "Personal Info"- I'm trying to get the cable, not sell my soul to the corporate devil.
I'll see if there are some other, "simpler" options for contact....

Unfortunately I cannot see the prices on kg-part website, but if I try with "Hair Straightener Power Cable" on AliExpress I do get something similar, but with a price tag of about 25€, which is insane. DIY repair for the win, I suppose. Not equally sturdy or pretty, but works....

Yeah, the cheapest ones that I bought a couple (for 12V) don't have that pin. I'll have to splurge and buy the second-cheapest option.

The only problem I can see with using external buck converter, is then that power supply (and probably something powered by it) will be always on -I suppose internal PS is somehow connected to power button- but, then again, it's only a problem when device is plugged in but not switched on, which for a NAS shouldn't be that often.

Yep, this power input part of the board looks very similar if not identical to mine.

So, if I understand correctly, I basically have 3 options: try my luck with Aliexpress chip; bypass this part of the board with "external" 5V buck converter; or just bin the damn thing.

Although I'm not sure if pinout is the same, as 1514 has high mosfet gate on pin2 (according to your document), while on my board it seems that high mosfet gate goes to pin8? 😕
Weird part is, I can find uP1504 chips on Aliexpress, but I'm not able to find any datasheet for it.
