Well I have had a set before which had that option set wrong and it would turn on and off too. But it was full on/off not just backlight.
Have you checked INV ON/OFF voltageyet? On connector between main and power. If this voltage is not varying, no point chasing main board fault: it's not the main board that's bad.

What are the labels on the pins next to the connector? One should be BL ON, or ON/OFF, or INV ON/OFF, or INV ON, ...

INV-ON on yours. Check voltage on this pin (red probe on pin, black on chassis) Does it vary?

OK that means the main board can be eliminated.
If you change the backlight setting to a higher level from the user menu does it cut out quicker?

That's the thing now tom the backlight in the menu are set on 10
But I'm still having to short out PCI801's everytime I restart the time then it will stay on for ages

Been reading up on net was thinking one of the lamps has gone in the panel which would draw more voltage to the invertor board but I read it cuts out the TV completely so it can't be that
A bad bulb could cause this as could arcing between bulb and frame, both could be temperature sensitive. though usually would not be affected by that PCI801S.
