Samsung LCD TV has Very Bright Picture - LN40A500T1FXZA

Hi. I have a Samsung LCD tv that has a very bright picture. I've tried the picture reset in the menu, did'nt help. It powers on normally. Has good sound. I've taken the back off, and inspected it. I did not find any burnt parts or bulging caps. Any advised will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, without any testing my first guess would be the tcon board. Let some other people with a bit more experience chime in but if that's the problem it should be a cheap fix.

I would say t-con gamma IC.

I second that it has Gamma IC problem.

Interesting. One of my Samsungs used to do that for about 1 minute, a few times a week at random. Not quite that bright though.
Hasn't done it for a quite a while now.

I ordered a brand new T-Con board, but the problem did NOT change. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I would suggest testing the gamma voltages first, to see if the T-con you have is defective ("brand new"? or "used from scrapped TV"?). If it is not, then it is probably panel. A small chance the main is bad.

If you need help testing the gamma voltages, post a close shot of the T-con.

Here is a pic of the T-con board. The board I purchased, was brand new. And yes, I would like to test the gamma voltages. Thanks.

Between the two white ribbon cables is a box marked GAMMA. This is your test area. On each gold pad marked with a number measure the voltage there. Red probe on test point black on chassis. DC20V range. You're expecting a monotonic (same direction) increase or decrease from 1-17, in the range of 0-15V.

The TV it was previously opened?
                    Do you see missing screws?
On one of the TVs, I took off the panel's metal frame, and when I put it back I have damaged a tiny pot on the panel's thin board. The screen looked like yours.

Definitely a defective gamma IC there; the voltages are all over the place.

That's what I thought when I seen the eratic voltages. This is the original T-con board. I've already returned the new board, Personally, I don't think the new board was "NEW", it had several scratches on the back of it. Should I get a different board? And Thanks for your time.

To tom66: Bought a used board from a working TV with a broken panel, and it worked perfectly. So yes, those so called "NEW" boards on Ebay are used and untested. Thank You so much for your help.

Both tcon boards seem to be bad. There are irregular spikes in the voltages. The voltages should gradually only drop down with each prior measure.

Also, the voltages should be symmetric about the mid point of around 7.5V. Both T-cons are defective.

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                                        by TR103
                                        Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                                        - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                        - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                                        - it keeps rebooting
                                        - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                        - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                        Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

Philips 243v5lhsb00 Monitor Picture too bright
                                        by Schwoin
                                        Hey everyone,

the picture on my philips monitor looks way too bright so that black appears grey and colors also seem too bright.

While i tried to tilt the screen a little bit while it was displaying a picture, i´ve noticed, that there appeared some purple pixels. In the following picture
you can see them on the top half of the photo.

At a certain point during the tilting, the picture looked normal again but as soon as i laid it back down, the purple pixels were gone and the picture was bright again.
                                        ...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                                        by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
