Vizio E422VA - Freezes on logo - eeprom?

I'm trying to help someone at the local recycling center with this Vizio set.
When the set is plugged in the power indicator flashes - pretty sure this is a normal startup sequence. Eventually, the logo comes on the screen and it freezes. The set then turns off after 30 seconds or so. Trying to decide if it's worth repairing without buying a main board.
This isn't a 2 second to black problem.
I'm guessing that perhaps the eeprom is corrupt.
Anyone else seen the problem with this particular model? If it is a corrupt eeprom, can someone suggest a good vendor of the chip?

    Thanks
    Mike

Re: Vizio E422VA - Freezes on logo - eeprom?

      Hi,

I emailed a company that sells pre programmed eeprom chips. They responded that the eeprom in this model is either a 40 pin or a 48 pin smd. They don't have a way to program something with this many pins yet.
I was hoping there might be a way to clear it in the service menu if it's even possible to access that menu.
It's a real shame you have to buy a main board to fix this issue and if it is a weak point in the design it might happen with the replacement board. The tv supposedly updates it's firmware automatically so I wonder what happens if the update is interrupted.
I will also keep searching for an answer.

Message this guy about it. He sent me one that he didn't have listed before.

I sent him an e-mail and just got the response back.
That set uses a different eeprom chip and at this point in time it isn't available.
Thanks for the info - eventually someone will figure this out for a cost effective repair.
Does anyone know if the firmware can be upgraded with the usb port on this set? I've tried some of the suggested ways to get into the service menu listed in the stickies without success.

I'm trying to resurrect this old thread that I started.
Has anyone found a solution to this model (E422VA) freezing on the logo.
I think that the corrupt chip is a Samsung K9K8G08U0D - a 48 pin surface mount device.

            Thanks,
            Mike

              Hi Mike,

Forgive me, I don't mean to hijack this thread.

But have you figured out your problem since your last entry in January?
I'm new to this forum and I have the same Vizio model E422VA TV. It has the same problem you described with your set. I'm convinced my problem is also firmware related. All my voltages are present and everything powers up okay. The "V" logo displays on the screen for about a minute or so, then the TV shuts down, the power light blinks for another minute, then the TV powers back up and displays the logo on the screen. This process repeats over & over again. Much like it's going into standby or protective mode. Also, while all this is going on, there's no response to either the remote control buttons or the control buttons on the side of the TV. I would like to find a replacement main board. But I can't seem to find one available to buy. My main board number is: TXACB5K05204 (on barcode sticker) I believe it's made by L&T Display Technology, not Vizio or LG, although it looks just like all the other main boards I've seen for this model. Do you know or is there anyone on this forum that can point me in the right direction to obtaining the above numbered board? Is there another number that is a direct replacement to this one? Is there a repair service I can send this board for repair?

              Thanks,
              Bill

I have an extra mainboard, with these numbers:
                TV Parts Guy Items
                1 VIZIO E422VA MAIN BOARD 715G4365-M01-000-005K / CBPFTXACB5K00503 @ $99.99 = $99.99

                Sub-Total: $99.99

                Shipping: $0.00 (Will Call)

                Sales Tax: $9.00

                TV Parts Guy Total: $108.99
I have purchased it from tvpartsguy, but at the end, I didn't need it.
I had a power supply issue.
I have tested it and it's in good working order.
It may not be the right board for your TV, though. There are three variants.

It's not the same board, you need a different one.

Do you still have this board? If so I'd like to purchase it.

Please PM my here and I'll get an email.

                      Thanks!

Are any of these boards still around? My LED just started doing what is mentioned above.

This may help some if you have the same board listed in this flash memory fix.

I am no genius with this stuff but comparing my issue with others seems to be one of these two issues.

That flash chip looks very difficult to repair. Is there a video on replacing this somewhere? Thanks for the advice.

                              Just an FYI:
My Vizio EV422VA will turn on and stay on the Vizio logo for a few minutes then shut off. Then the power button will flash and eventually the TV will turn back on with the Vizio logo again. It will continue to cycle through this for hours but never do anything more.

With that EEPROM, which seems like it's a TSOP48, you will need to use hot air station. You could try an electronic repair place, maybe they are able to replace it.
Maybe, a Chip Quick smd desoldering kit could help as well.

this sound like an Flash memory(EEPROM) problem. These memory chips develop bad blocks and then fail upon accessing the bad block, then the unit will reset itself.

you should recap your power supply this model Vizio uses low quality caps and could be an issue.

Re: Vizio E422VA - Freezes on logo - eeprom?

I actually found a solution to this for everyone who is still reading this or whoever will read this. I know I am late but I figured it out.

Connect your TV to an Ethernet cord and connect the power cord to the TV also. Let sit for a few minutes and turn it on, it should work fine. If this fixes the TV then what happened was that your TV tired to make a firmware update but malfunctioned. So all you need to do is connect the TV to the internet to finish the updates. The Ethernet port is in the back of the TV.

IF this method did not work then unscrew the back part of the Television and look at the big green chip (main board) and look for a black chip with a black burn out loook. If you see a black chip with a black pin then that means you need a eeprom. You should use the code on your white sticker to search for eeproms, not your TV model number.
