So if I do try it with just the one resistor going to BL_ON should I still unhook both wires to the main board or leave the STBY hooked up?

Leave both the STBY pin and the BL_ON not connected to the main board for now, I am still not sure if this TV use HI logic for on or LO logic for on yet for the STBY signal pin.

Okay I wired up a 3v DC PS with new AA batteries, has output of 3.3V. The only way it would work was to leave the wire connected from main board to STBY (was still at .017V) on the Power Supply and leave the other BL_ON disconnected from the main board but connected at the PS Connector with the resistor to the 3V DC Power Source, Now I have Back Lights and the display, but it still comes on as soon as plugged in with no remote function and all other function buttons ( on/off, vol+, vol-,input, etc.) on the tv do nothing. I wonder if I can download the SSB configuration to a usb flash drive and then install it, I assume that's what the on screen message is referring to but I'm not sure. And the other problems as of now is why does it power on when plugged in? no remote or response from function buttons on the TV? No Back light without the battery 3V source?

        Thanks.

Here's something I found on a website, I copied and pasted the text here, I may call Philips if they answer and ask them or just download and install, I don't think it will hurt anything.

          Error message on my LCD

42" LCD phillips power cord plugged to AC IN and to power outlet. TV turned on and message, "please insert the USB device with the correct file" can not change channels, cannot turn off with power button unless i disconnect through power cord.

Well I called Philips and they didn't have an answer, they think it is a problem with the TV, so I'm thinking maybe the SSB needs configured but not sure if the software update will resolve the problem.
            Comments ???? Thanks.

That is good that you can get the backlights to stay on, at least you now know that the power supply and the inverter circuits are OK, so this power supply board uses active LO logic (LO= ON). You can leave the BL_ON line connected to the batteries so the bcaklights will stay on for now, that is the only signal you are not using from the main board right now. So now you need to do that setup per instruction using your remote or what ever it needs to program tis main board.

I don't get any response from the TV when using the remote control so I'm not sure how to configure the main board, I think I will re-install the old main board just to see what it will do with the backlights on now using the 3 volt battery.

Okay, tried old main board had no back lights even with 3v battery source to BL_ON, same setup as post 63, reinstalled replacement main board and had backlight again as also in post 63, downloaded firmware upgrade for this model TV from Philips Website and extracted the file to a USB Flash Drive. As on the TV screen Message still showed " Insert the USB Device with the correct file" so I did just that, then plugged in the TV, I could tell it was doing something since the usb drive was flashing also the message on the screen changed to "Upgrading" it only took about 30 seconds and it was done. I then unplugged the TV Power cord and plugged it back in, everything changed then, didn't even have backlights with the 3v battery to BL_ON, so I removed the battery and re-hooked the BL_ON wire back up to the PS Connector, so now all wires back to normal, plugged the TV in and was able to power it on, I hooked up a Dvd player to one of the AV Sources and now have sound and picture, Yes it's working!!! The remote control even works too, didn't try cable signal yet. still tried the SSB Configuration but it didn't seem to do anything, will try that again later. If I hadn't got the backlights to work I wouldn't have been able to see the on screen message to even know what was going on. Thanks to all and I want to especially thank Bud for being such a great help. It's nice to have it working.

Woohoo! great job finding the way to upgrade the firmware. I believe you do not get the backlights with the old board even with the external 3v batteries to the BL_ON line is that the PS_ON probably stuck HI on the old board.
So glad to hear you go it going, it got me worry for a while why the backlights were not coming, now I know this chassis uses active LO logic.

Thanks Bud! Okay, After several attempts I was finally able to Enter the correct screen diversity and option codes to configure the SSB although there was no noticeable difference in picture quality, the only problem I see now is the screen flickers on certain scenes especially the darker ones, I have adjusted brightness, contrast etc. but the problem still exists, does anyone have a fix for this? Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the screen was flickering before and after I configured the SSB. By Flickering I mean a change in brightness flickering fast lighter-normal-lighter-normal-lighter-normal-lighter-normal and so on. otherwise the picture is great.

Does it have one of those auto brightness that auto adjust to the room light function and auto/dynamic contrast function/ Try turning them off.

Thanks again Bud, It has Active Control which automatically adjust to room light and I have the TV facing the wall on my work bench in the Garage, I turned off active control, dynamic contrast and noise reduction, I haven't seen the screen flicker yet but I'm also playing a different movie thru the Dvd Player, I'll keep checking from time to time to see how it's doing, going to leave the TV on a few hours at a time, Oh by the way in the menu I found that this TV has only 107 hours of operation manufactured in 2010, it was given to me and the replacement main board was $57 with free shipping.
