    Have I been sold a faulty T-con

Hi guys. I would appreciate your advise on this one.
The TV is a LG42LH3000 with the left hand 50% of the screen being black. The fault is intermittent and tapping the Tcon board or surrounding area will clear the fault for a while.I have just replaced the Tcon which came from Ebay.I still have the same fault.Have I been sold a dud as I thought only the Tcon can cause this.

Left hand screen black or just dark, with a visible picture? Sharp cut off between sides or gradual? Sounds more like panel, sadly...

Yes, if you have replace the T-con and results the same then Panel was the problem originally. Sometimes I have been able to manipulate by Jamming something behind the TCP ribbon cable thats causing the Bad connection. However its not Permanent fix.

Yes Tom sharp cut off between sides. Left hand side completely dark.I have a feeling could be bad soldering on the tcon.Maybe its a common fault.I have just tried to reflow the ics on the board.Working at the moment.Fingers crossed.

Try reseating the ribbon cables from the panel to the Tcon.

also, try blasting some freeze spray on the panel ribbons if fault dissapears you at least know the panel is faulty, strange though that tapping the t con makes it better,as that wouldnt cause any movement on the panel ribbons, lvds yes,it must take quite a whack on the t con to make the fault dissapear

It did not take much of a tap, mainly on the big ic in the middle of the board.I think the replacement board has the same issue. Will keep you posted.

hmm sounds like a dry ic then ,that would be a good fix,did you use hot air and flux?

the freeze will crush up the bond between the ribbons and its contacts
