multimeter started a topic NTC thermistor

NTC thermistor

hi guys long time no see

currently repairing a samsung bluray player with a blown NTC part no,NTC3D-9 due to a suspected surge,all surrounding components test fine,bridge,caps,diodes mosfets etc..

the NTC is a 3 OHM 4 AMP,im un-able to find the exact part number..

i found a 3 OHM 5.4AMP NTC from RS components,my question is will the higher amperage NTC cause any problems?,and what is the function of the amp rating of the NTC?,does it limit at 4AMP the current going into the power supply?,or is that the max rating the NTC will take before destruction?...

does PS-ON signal fluctuate?,might indicate main board problem,as that signal is generated at the main board,disconnect main board ,voltage still fluctuating on psu?

cant see properly but does it have a FAN*** 8 legged IC ?,if so check vcc to ground for low ohms

psu pic? main filter cap checked for short?

the blue light stays as it is when the remote is pressed?,sounds like you have 5vSTB but no PS-ON signal which is generated at the main board

PFL series suffer with bad secondary caps with out the obvious sign,gluxen caps if memory serves me right,replace on sight and test again,

the 12v to the main could be low causing the lines,does the on screen menu show when the lines are there?,it could be a main board issue ,use a hair drier to heat the power board at first startup and note if the tv corrects itself faster,then try with the main board,which would indicate capacitor issue,though i think this is maybe a main board issue

ps-on is generated by the main board and sent to the power supply,1.9VDC is too low for the PS-ON,it could be a cap related issue on the main board

sounds like a cold joint on the power supply to me,try flexing the power suppy with a insulated plastic rod or simular,does it make the fault re-occur ?

if you have replaced batterys and have a phone with camera function,look at the IR sensor on the remote through the camera, if its working you will see it flash like a torch when pressing the buttons,also could be firmware/flash corruption on the mainboard

i think its a NCP1271B PFC controller IC,used on a few LG tv's,im not 100% though

your diodes you can test in circuit,if you find one with an odd reading take it out and retest

and the IC just test in circuit pins 7 and 8 together 200ohm scale power unplugged

if you see them charging sounds like the rails arnt shorted,does meter go out of range when they get to a point?

did you re-solder cold joint?(resistor)

test all your diodes,and the ones on heatsinks too?

your controller IC 8 legged chip you put up,measure resistance from pin 7 to 8,reading?...
