I use desolder wick to remove most of the solder then heat each pin levering it up gently
with a toothpick. once you have a small gap it gets easier. The darfons I have replaced
have always had a plastic pin on the base which fits in a hole in the board.
Never heard of anyone repairing the actual transformer

If I were you, if you already know that you have one transformer is bad, more likely the other may go ut later on also, it happened to me a few times already, if one transformer is 10 pounds each you may be better off getting the broken board cheap for may be 20 pounds then you will have some spare transformers, I am sure the bad board will have at least one or more of good transformers on it, just a suggestion.

I think you are getting confused between an inverter and a transformer.

Each of those grey things on the board is a transformer. There are 6 to 12+ on a board depending on how many CCFLs there are. In this case it looks like one transformer drives two CCFLs.

The entire assembly including the control circuitry is the inverter.

It is these transformers which goes bad.

Yes it is possible to repair the transformer but it's seriously not worth your time. Do you want to rewind a 1000 turn coil? And you'll need a spool of magnet wire which will probably cost you more than a new transformer.

The failure of the transformer is due to a consistent manufacturing defect in Darfon inverters. PlainBill says it is probably due to the wire being too tight causing arcing.

thank you tom66. it is a bit hard for me the "technical english language" (english its not my native though i speak it better than french and italian which may seem easier), but i will get used to special words
i did examine the broken transformer and i agree that repairing it is time consuming and worthless.
budm: i was thinking that too, an inverter board would suit cos i'd have a lot of spare ones but its not cheap. 150$ seems a lot.

w about this? specs looks the same. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bush-32-ID...#ht_712wt_1396

it would cost me 70$ including shipping, but can i rely on a used inverter board? what if it would give problems with the transformers?
should i change only the defective transformer or the entire board and keep the old one for spare?

It will always be a gamble buying used items. Most people will tell you what THEY would do but it is your choice. If it was me I would buy one of the boards, having made sure it was an exact match and put in the whole board
and test it- ( If it doesnt work then you can think about pulling the transformers off it). Keep the old one as spares or sell off some of the transformers or keep a look out for a set with the same fault and try to repair that.

Obviously if you could get a very cheap faulty tv that had a board that used the 4003L transformers that might be the way to go. On the laws of average it should have some usable transformers and other "spares"

If its any help at all I havent used the company but I do know Recycling Lives it is in the city where I live.
                http://www.recyclinglives.com/
and they are legitimate. In the UK all the councils run recycling depots. The items are sorted and then sold on. I Think Recycling lives gets the electrical stuff from the council here, dismantles, tests and sells the parts.

It annoying really as I see loads of tvs id like to "play" with at the council recycling but you cant get hold of them.

i was asking cos i think that this tv will be the first of a lot of others which i will repair, and repairing them is what i'll do for a living. i finally settled in my home town, and know have my own computer related and general electronics service shop/store. i just want to know whats the best way, collecting several pieces and waiting for a tv to fit, or just ebaying the parts i need?

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?
                    by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

I have a tripp-lite aspint 3636vr inverter charger which blow some of mosfet transistors. I replaced them repaired also the driver circuit and tested but the mosfets burn again.

It work very well as inverter and also as charger if I let the rear switch in auto mode (inverter) and charger only(charging) but in auto when I connect the feed line 220V AC first time it pass ok to line and start charging the batteries but when I remove the feed line it pass to inverter mode and if I do it again the second time when passing from charging to inverter the Main transformer start making a...

                    by valvashon
For some reason I'm just not going to let this 19" TV defeat me. I guess because I have a schematic to work from I feel like I'm oh so close.

History- while adding a turn-on circuit I let a small screw roll under the power board. Worked through all of that circuitry, probably replacing a MOSFET and PWM controller that were not bad but I was following the service manual. Finally figured out that the power supply is in working order when the inverter section (for the backlights) is disconnected. When the +12 supply to the inverter is disconnected the +12 and +5 will come up...

If I had a solar fed grid tie inverter (GTI), a modified sine wave inverter, and a power outage occurred, what would happen if you disconnected mains, backfed the modified sinewave inverter (MSI) into house power, and hooked up the GTI to the output of the MSI, would it work?

Next thing is trying to charge the batteries using solar power, but that's another issue ...

I am currently on a troubleshoot of 46” Sony KDL-46BX450 tv. I came back from Washington to Texas on medical emergency and had to leave all my tools up there. All I have is a couple of screwdrivers and a dvm. I wish to ask the community a troubleshooting question. Please forgive stupid questions as meds I am taking produce brain fog.
I have well maintained Sony KDL-46BX450. It went black one day. After turn-on, I get solid green light and Sony logo in screen center for about 1-2 seconds, then black. No blinking LEDs, no hissing. Flashlight test shows screen characters dimly viewable,...
