    Sony KDL-46EX700

Hello all, yes I am new here and appreciate any assistance in troubleshooting this TV. Picked it up from my son last night, turn it on and all you get is the blinking red 6 times light.

I have begun looking at the Sony Troubleshooting manual that I found in a post here. Initially one would think that its the backlight but in the the troubleshooting guide page 16, it states that (6X blinking) is caused by a failure of the converter circuit. Replacement of the power supply board is necessary.

The flowchart on page 17 indicates that it would be the GE2B board.

So as a novice, I am sure that Sony's have known issues and regular cut to the chase malfunctions. So I am seeking any guidance into leading me to the issue with this TV. I have yet to open it and look for any obvious issues on the board, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    ed

So here is exactly what it does. Tv turns on, Sony logo appears then disappears. Starts again, Sony logo appears, then disappears for the second time and TV then blinks 6 red lights.

Try a simple reset, unplug tv for 5 minutes, press and hold the power button on tv for 30 seconds, plug tv back in and try it, probably won't fix but easy enough to try, could be bad backlight/s or backlight driver. There's a few things to try there: https://automatelife.net/sony-tv-red...nking-6-times/

Thanks for your response, that was the first thing he tried. Will look at the info in the link you provided.

I always check all the resistors, diodes and transistors at least on top of the powerboard before tearing down, might not be your case but i have seen one resistor cause the shut down and 6 blink error, here's a guy doing your model, maybe be a little more careful with the panel than he is being tho, it's definitely not the best how to video, maybe you can find a better one, searching on youtube can be a pain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2WIbl7sm_I

Yes, Sony appears behind this half screen and goes away.

SO I had a bad flex cable connection. The screen is normal again, but TV still turns on then quickly off. I am seeing some kits on ebay that have transistors and resistor that claim should fix this kind of issue. Or I can buy a used power board with 30 day warranty shipped for less than 50.00 bucks.

                            Thoughts?

A couple simple things to try, look over the solder joints on the powerboard and reflow any that look suspicious, look up images of bad solder joints if needed. Heat up the electrolytic capacitors with a hairdryer for a couple minutes, probably try this first, use hairdryer NOT heatgun, then try tv, don't wait til it cools down, see if it stays on longer or there is a difference, it's a test that can sometimes sniff out marginal/bad caps.

You have replaced single leds and this is the reeason, needs a certain technique to find half damaged leds, i suggest you to remove the return wire for the leds and put an 1n4007 diode in series..

Not sure I follow what you are saying but for clarification on my end all 4 complete strips have been replaced. Also, in the meantime after acquiring an LED tester, I have checked the original 4 strips that I removed, and the all power on completely.

SO is this telling me that my efforts to replace the leds strips, were wrong to begin with?

Warmed the board, no change. Turn power switch to ECO, hear relay click, push power button: Green light comes on, Sony logo briefly appears and goes away. Cycles once again, then red light on front comes on, then blinks 6 times.

                                        this is what you told:
So after replacing the 4 LED's
                                        and so i answered..
the persistance of 6 blinks is either bad strips or bad backlight circuit, but i guess is the first, so why don't try the same my advice?
