• Well it was the LEDs. Found replacements swapped em out and the TV did work. I said did because when I was setting the panel back in place, I needed to shift it ever so slightly and it cracked Im so freaking mad at myself for not getting help ugh.

IF I wanted to look into a panel replacement cost ( i know typically expensive ) where would I look? I googled it but havent found much luck. Thanks.

  • Yes, I followed his follow up video and saw that. And since he was having same initial result, with the LEDs lighting under tester but failing under TV power, I think I am going to order a set. Its not a bad idea to have a set on hand anyway since at some point the LEDs will go out haha.

Not sure if they are 12v. Ive tested every individual one and they all read same 2.4 off a tester. I know they are not very bright with the tester. When I had them working, they got quite bright.

Also, I noticed if I hold the tester on an individual LED it blinks dim to bright and repeats....

  • So I started with this today. First thing I did was test the LEDs at the harness, and once again only half lite. I played around with it checking other spots within the LED strip and they were testing fine again. Then once again the set that wasnt lighting, was lighting again. It got me searching for the video the above video was talking about, how he tested the LED strips and it gave it juice to work for a few days, then they would go out, he would test it again and it give juice and so on and so on. Thinking that maybe its possible the same thing was happening here with the set I am trying to...

  • Yes sir, you are correct. After more probing and realizing my problem, I learned it was the PS_ON.

Last night I also tried the grounding of the BL_ERR but that didnt help.

I did find this video, which seems pretty thorough, I just hope I can comprehend what the terms are and locations of said spots are because he doesnt do much zoom.

Storyteller12 understand your post, because it makes sense, I just dont want to throw money at it "fixes itself" If I can at least get to the root of the problem,...

  • Ok sorry, like I say, still learning. I was counting the pins wrong on the harness. The stand by power was a steady 3.48. Please forget comments 31 & 32, my apologies.

  • Ok, so I went and walked the dog leaving the powerstrip off. Flipped it on, and I was able to recreate the same 3.44 at standby for 2:20 and then it would shut off. I dont know if this means anything, just info....

  • I also noticed something and Im not sure if this is normal. I was testing the stand by voltage and it read 3.44, but after awhile I didnt get a reading. What I found was as soon as I turned on the powerstrip to supply the TV with power, the standby voltage jumped to 3.44 and after about 2.20 seconds the voltage dropped to nill. Turn TV on, the standby power comes back 3.44 and then as soon as the relay trips to protect, the standby drops off again. I then waited 10 minutes to test again and now I cant recreate the just described issue ...

  • Lotas, sorry, Im new to this. When you asked the above question, do you mean does the br_err go to the point on the MB that im testing?...

  • Got a question.. In the first photo, you can see its telling me to test for voltage at JL1703 on BM5A, ok no problem right? Well in the second photo, it shows location of JL1703.. Its on the underside of the MB, how am I to get a probe on it? I was always told to never test boards with full power unless they are screwed down in place. Is that wrong? Can I remove the MB and put clamps on it to ground it from board to frame?...

  • Shoot ok...

Well its back to not turning on and giving the 6 blinks, but when it was on yesterday, I didnt notice anything weird on the screen, it was a nice perfect picture during the set up process and even when it went thru the sony set up and showed vibrant pictures.

I did happen to find the service manual for this model tv and a few others. It gives pretty good info about test points and shows with diagrams exactly where to be testing. I know my bubble has burst Ill keep my fingers crossed it turns out to be a faulty PB and do the tests tonight.

  • I havent been able to do the testing as of yet. I had to put the tv and components back together because I was needing to have a dog stay with me and I didnt want to chance it with him . Since the backlights were working while open, after putting it together ( back still open ), I though meh why not and I turned it on. Woohoo it was working. I was watching sports in another room so I was back and forth for about 45 minutes slowing working thru the whole set up process. I was adding my network information, when all of a sudden, I heard a couple repeated fast clicks and the TV went back to 6 blinks....

  • Now home, I can run some tests, but couple questions....

With the backlights lit up and no blinking code happening, wont the tests all come out correct?

The first step says Check BL_ERR CN3000 Pin #12 on my PB BL_ERR is CN6401 Pin #8. So am I to just find the names and be sure the tests read out correct?

    Thank you

  • So I left the TV on thru the night, about 11 hours and woke this morning and all the LEDs were still lit. Still have a few more pieces to attach ( TCON, wifi, and panel ) but Im hoping none of those send it back to error code. I dont think they should since none of those deal with the LEDs directly....

  • Eazy, by the first photo, you can see what I reinstalled. Second photo is the TV acting as it should. LEDs went thru the start up process ( dimming up and down ) and have settled in. Currently have now been on for approximately 15 minutes....

  • Right now, nothing is on the casing of the TV other than the LEDs. I can try to get the PB and MB hooked back up....

  • Ok so I retested everything just to make sure I wasnt messing up yesterday ( worked a 13 hour shift ). The very first time I tested with the boards and everything intact, Im 99% sure that I had one side reading 173 and the other read 300 ( no lights meter never changed ). When I did the test initially, the PSU was still connected to the LED harness and I used the pins off the PSU side ( it was the only way possible to test the strips as the way Sony has the harness, it clicks in and out with the board install or removal ). Maybe I didnt have good contact, but I will say before I took the TV apart...

  • Eazy, ok will work on tonight after work and let you know. Ill try to post a video or at least a photo of the LEDs brightness/dimness if thatll help also.

How bright should the LEDs get when using the tester? When individual strips tested on the + & - of the strip ( still all connected to all other strips with the wiring harness ), it read 10 and when using the harness, it was 173 on both leads ( meaning I have 2 reds and 2 blacks in the harness ). From watching videos though, the LEDs strip seem to get fairly bright compared to what I am personally seeing....

  • Eazy, I was able to get it off, it had screws but also little clips on the underside.

So after getting only one set ( seemingly ) to light last night, I took it completely apart to expose all the LED strips. I tested each strip individually and they ALL lite. I then tested the main connections again, and both sets of leads gave power to ALL the LEDs. In any of my testing with the LED tester ( this was my first time ) none of the LEDs got very bright. I dont know if thats normal or not?

So if ALL the LEDs seem to be working now that it had been taken apart, what would...
