Since I don't use this inverter that much - stays cool, it still works fine. However I wonder how long it will be until it starts developing issues much like the Antec PSUs.

The cover seems to have rusted into place so I can't get any inverter porn going here. Worth sharing I think, but we'll have to wait until I can get the cover off without damaging it.

BTW this is the inverter that shocked me... literally. Maybe there is a real problem worth investigating...

Thin Red/White wire goes to power switch

Blue/Brown goes to outlets

Fat red/black goes to 12VDC

Thin red/blue goes to fan.

Looks uncannily like the 80W inverter I repaired - dual KA7500/TL494 and H-bridge, except bigger capacitors and transformer (it is 4x the power capacity...) and has a LM324 (the 80W uses discrete it appears). The little 80W uses a single red/green LED and this one uses discrete red and green LEDs to indicate its status. The same structure but heatsinked main switches (lower left) and H-bridge (lower right) exists in both designs.

Anyway, isn't it sexy? We see so many ATX PSUs, for a change we get to see Sima - a PSU's opposite - that converts +12VDC to 120VAC...

In my opinion, the sooner you replace capacitors you suspect will go bad (or are going bad) the better.

It is perfect if you can repair a device before it starts showing symptoms of problems, because that means nothing has been damaged by the faulty caps. Waiting until it releases it's magic smoke means much more work.

I've never run the inverter long enough to heat up. The "primary" caps in this PSU (the 1000uF Fuhjyyu TN's) are just like in on-line power supplies - they are charged by the alternator and discharged by the switching transistors. The "secondary" capacitor is the Fuhjyyu MH capacitor, a 200V (forgot, I think it's around 68 to 100)uF 105°C capacitor.

Since you don't use it often, you can recap that with parts pulled off from other boards. That way you will not waste money.

I will need to locate a source of a large number of good spares to recover... unfortunately a whole bunch of 1mF capacitors are already spoken for in another recap job...
