One of my PSU I notice has a strange trait. Whenever I turn off my Desk Lamp on the same trailing socket this PSU will switch off also. (It's not my Tagan by the way.)

It's probably afraid of the dark..."The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it." -

Re: PSU switches off when turn off Desk Lamp
Yes Fizzycapola2 is my secret other character.
Actually theres an explanation behind it, after forum had new email policy, I couldn't log in on Fizzycapola, so I made Fizzycapola2. Fizzycapola2 was still cookied on my laptop for this thread but all cleared now.Rubycon Rubycon RubyconComment

Re: PSU switches off when turn off Desk Lamp
it's a low voltage halogen with a big chinese transformer in it's base unit (Orientronic), I know it causes something when switched on/off TV screen has distortion for a second, this PSU (Antec) shuts off though, somewhat inconvenient

Re: PSU switches off when turn off Desk Lamp
Try putting a small current-limiting resistor or thermistor in series with the transformer in the base of the halogen lamp. That will reduce the spike caused by the reverse-magnetization in the transformer (which happens because it is turned off during a non-zero crossing point in the AC cycle).Comment

Re: PSU switches off when turn off Desk Lamp
Does your PSU contain an EMI filter? Because when I've used a PSU without one, turning my fluorescent desk lamp on or off would make the computer reboot or lock up. The better surge protectors contain EMI filters, but the ones made of only capacitors don't seem to help at all; the filter also needs to contain chokes. The lamp has to be plugged into a different outlet.Comment

Re: PSU switches off when turn off Desk Lamp
The PSU is Antec SmartPower 350W, not sure if it has EMI filter inside
At the time of occurence this was the exact setup:
Mains:
l
4 Socket Adaptor (EMI snap on filters either end of cable) - Belkin 6 Plug Adaptor Pure AV Isolator

l
Desklamp, Monitor (power cable Tagan screened with EMI filter built on), PC (HiFi enthusiast screened)Rubycon Rubycon RubyconComment

by pajdekHello, i have some issues with my laptop Lenovo Y700-17ISK (motherboard BY511 NM-A541), it started when i turn on the laptop, but the lcd wont turn on, i then connected it via hdmi to tv and screen was ok. So i thought maybe lcd stripe is faulty, i removed the bottom cover, disconnected main battery, reset the cmos by disconnecting battery for 1 min, then slighty move the lcd stripe. Conncted power supply and tuned on my laptop, the lcd turn on, it started to load os, then it turn off, after a second it turn on, then after like 3 seconds turn off again, and so on. Let me tell you a little bit about what happened to my laptop (MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX model: MS-16R6) that “maybe” you know how to solve this problem.
So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But... -
by robante15Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4520 from a couple of decades ago and I want to repair it solely for nostalgia.
It happens that when I turn it on after having been disconnected for a long time, it turns on without problems, it tells me that the BIOS has been reset and that it will load the factory settings, if I tell it to continue, the computer turns on and everything works fine.
The moment I turn it off and want to turn it back on a second time, or restart it and try to start it again, it no longer gives an image, and it no longer responds.
If I remove the... -
by masoksianHi everyone,
I am dealing with the problem of turning on and off my Dell e7470 notebook.
The battery charge light is solid white, I press the button, the power indicator and the light on the button are solid for 1-2 seconds and immediately turn off.
The system does not turn on, there is no post.
I removed the RAMs and changed them, changed the battery, RTC battery, AC adapter, removed them and waited, tried again, it does not turn on.
The problem continues in the same way.
I tried to turn on the Fn key, nothing came to the screen.... -
by eccerr0rHow many bcn readers does it take to screw in a light bulb into my LED desk lamp?
Answer: None. This is a nonreplacable-LED desklamp.
So this lamp has one of those aluminum stars and an LED on it. It appears to be some sort of BGA or something with pins underneath. Anyway the PSU is 500mA 3.6V-8V meaning this probably was either meant to massively overdrive 1W LEDs or slightly over drive 3W LEDs...
So it seems that typical 1W LEDs on stars are indeed 3.6V @ 300mA to get 1W which would be overdriven at 500mA, and 3W LEDs appear to be 3.6V@700mA which is a... - Loading...
