Actually changing the current is easy for me.
It's opening the stupid plastic welded-sealed PSU that's the hard part. :-(

i squeeze cases in a vice - they usually crack along the weld

Figured out how to open... silly screw behind label.

Now... this PSU is awful... very inflexible CC. Seems like it's CP (constant power) and not really CC.

Now I wonder, how long will a 1W LED last if I drive it with this PSU that I think will dump 2W into it with the easiest mod I can think of... else I'll have to think about how to incorporate multiple LEDs without a heatsink as I can't use the existing aluminum star with two LEDs...

        ---

Oh, nevermind, came up with a better solution, can drop down to 1W. This might end up in the worthless repairs thread, and might also qualify for ghetto mods

          Failed.

PSU is cycling now and the LED is blinking Bad caps...? Hmm...

What kind of desk lamp / magnifier do you use ?
            by aneng
            Hi.

I need to get a bright desk lamp for working on PCBs and I'm wondering what is considered the best type to get for this kind of work ?

I see there are a lot of magnifier type lamps with ring lighting, but the magnification is usually only 5x, which I don't think is going to be enough for SMD work, though it might be OK for larger components / general use.

There are also the long LED strip kind.... which seem like they might be good.

I think that either way, I want to go with a swing-arm type ('anglepoise' type) rather than a gooseneck...

Epson 5040UB Projector No Lamp Strike Stuck in Startup - Blinking Status/Lamp Lights
            by vestaviascott
Hoping someone here can put me on the right track. I'm trying to troubleshoot/flowchart the "internal projector error" on my newly acquired Facebook Marketplace bought Epson 5040UB projector (3LED, not DLP). Owner said it needed new lamp, actually error code blink pattern indicates "Internal Projector Error, call Epson support". Unit is out of warranty as of 8/19

            Here's what happens:

            1) Power on
            2) Blue power indicator lights and the lens cover motor opens the lens cover, light fan noise heard
            3) Blue status light flashes for appx 4 minutes...

BenQ TH681 Originally overheating now wont fire the lamp - Colour wheel not starting
            by AJ847.63e
            Hi All.

Does anyone have any reference materials or something I can use to try troubleshooting a BenQ TH681? Google unfortunately has turned up zip. I did find a service manual for a W series BenQ but that is pretty much useless, it's more a glorified user manual. A list of voltages would be great as I suspect my mainboard is faulty, the colour wheel voltage is not dipping like it should.

The one I am troubleshooting now was originally overheating after a lamp replacement. It originally would take 2 minutes or so for it to shut off and blink the temp and lamp lights...

Help on Samsung Syncmaster T220 dead ccfl lamp
            by mikey5791
            Hi,

This monitor previously is my main working monitor which i have been using for 8~9 years. Yesterday, when i switched on my pc from fresh to power on, the monitor is just black no display. I started dismantle to look inside the monitor power board but nothing looks suspicious or burnt. So i took my external ccfl inverter to try to power the monitor ccfl lamps which consisted of 2 lamps on upper part and 2 lamps on the lower part.

Found out the upper ccfl lamp which is supposed to connect to cn304 on the power board did not light up. Then i installed a used working...

test active pfc power with lamp test
            by khelane
            Hello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
            Is there a way...
