• Re: Varying load electrical noises from PSU, what part makes the noise?

Staring at the red and black PSU, agent provacateur, I can imagine a little devil with some tools work his way out and sit on my desk laughing how much he's completely ruined my sanity....

Thanks for your suggestion Harvey. I'll have to check that one.

Yeah, I had hoped not, but it does sound a bit like transformer noise. I'll endeavour to solve the issue. I guess I will just have to spend another £150 on a new one for the third time I guess. Thanks for your help. I did say thankyou for useful contributions. I'm not someone who lowers themselves to saying thankyou easily, especially not in real life - normally I can just beat the info out of people lol.

• Varying load electrical noises from PSU, what part makes the noise?

"Bzzzzzz BZZZZZZZZZZZZ BZZZ BZZZZ"

Does anybody know what makes the noises of some slightly faulty modern PSU's...

Here is exactly the kind of thing I've been experiencing, I copied the out of PC test to be sure and the sounds are the same...

Reference:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uZkwNXoeOeY

I have prodded the coils whilst running high FPS 3D mode, but the sound doesn't change ( I used the rubber tip of some Dewalt safety glasses for prodding) it sounds like the sounds are comming from the area around where...

Zandrax, you're missing the point, you've started by jumping on my meaningless error - packet/byte it makes no difference with regard to the concern.

Thats way too much activity for an idle computer with firewall only allowing the said activities. For example my laptop reads after 55 minutes: sent: 3,147 received 3,710. And my other computers read similar with Intel NIC's.

I say it's a conspiracy lol.Re: Whats my NIC upto?

Whats my NIC upto?

It's just been sitting looking at badcaps forum idle. It did this the other day too with google search sitting idle. Software firewall is allowing only System, Genenric Host Process and FireFox3.0.3 on Port 80.

This is the native NIC (Atheros) on the P5Q. Through my laptop and other computers it looks normal, only a few thousand packets.

• Re: Shrinking Intel LGA775 heatsink sizes

It's true about motherboard temps. They're what you should focus on. It's no good having your CPU at 25 centigrade if the cost is motherboard 45 centigrade, where with stock you have 45:35 which is perfect. Often these aftermarket coolers may be designed to exploit reviewers who overlook this critical flaw. Lets never forget as soon as industry has your money, their next job is to fuck you completely, and make you pay more more more.

I don't know much about water. I've always assumed liquid metal cooling is the way forward...

• Re: Quad-core died

I wouldn't use CF900. It's more suited to Conroe or Wolfdale.

Dissipation is good (due to all copper build) and silence, but it lacks thermal capacity required for powerful CPU's.

It also has design issues, like clearance (it touches capacitors on 3 boards I've tried).

Well I hope this shit luck calms down on you soon and things get back to normal.

Only hope it doesn't accidentally sit itself on a quad core. * ouch that burns *

Behardware recently reviewed some unfathomably low priced PSU's...

http://www.behardware.com/articles/734-1/product-survey-7-power-supplies-for-less-than-45-euros.html

I can't trust Antec myself, after thinking it made sense to buy the best (Antec) at the time, and it blew up and damaged my components. Whereas if I'd kept the stock chinese PSU, none of this would have happpened. My friends unknown chinese PSU still works fine after 5 years continual random loading.Re: Best Buy Power Supplies?

• Re: Enough psu to sli?

Some important links for you:

http://service.futuremark.com/hardware/graphicsCardsList.action

http://www.guru3d.com/category/vga_charts_crysis/

Notice how using 2 graphics cards instead of one, orindarily only achieves a few more frames per second. Particularly the difference between using 1 GTX to 2 GTX is from 51 FPS (Single card) to 60FPS (two cards in SLI)

I was going to buy some 1GB Geforce 8's myself, until I learn they come bottom of all tests, even high resolution and...

• Re: Enough psu to sli?

I'd rather have a single card that out performs 2 mediocre cards. Consider an 8800 Ultra (£100) OC2 or Geforce 260 / 280 GTX, swapping up the CPU to something nearly as good as you can get like an E6850 (£60) may give nearly best performance currently purchasable or within a negligable few percent of it*. (* in real world - maybe not some abstract benchmark that has no relation to reality)

If you're lucky you may find you can sell your graphics card and buy a much better one for nothing. ( i.e public assumptions that GF9 > GF8, despite...

If the special graphics port is dead, as happens sometimes, you won't see a display.

• Re: HD4850 with Sacon FZ

6 months hard gaming probably before failure symptons start showing up.

Surprising that such a high end hot runner would have these. They probably are doing it on purpose so the card doesn't lose them revenue by lingering around in the 2nd hand market. I wouldn't be surprised if imaginery forums spring up encouraging overclocking it with professional fake wholly believable reports, just to make sure they get their extra revenues. Most supposedly unbiased articles on the net seem to encourage nothing but these covert "black profits",...

Discounting rational explanations.
Maybe it's the heatsink, it may be embued with evil.

It's the same one I used last year on two seperate PC's that wouldn't work properly.

If you do change the heatsink, don't forget to be careful with the backing plate, I couldn't remove mine without it wanting to rip off the tracks on the rear of the board, hair dryers didn't work well. I since burnt the insanely sticky glue strip off with a butane torch and various grades of steel wire brush and power tools, it took about an hour to get...

Seems to be working. Did you wipe all traces of your browser. I know firefox likes to dig up previous settings sometimes even if they're corrupted it won't mind using them for your new installation.

Thats a good point that hasn't been brought up.

I replaced the standard SATA2 ones with with branded ones. Still I've told him to stop trying to hot plug eSATA devices. His docking station has these warnings all over the box.

Theres plenty to unhappy stories if you type it in google.

Nearly all updates make things worse in my findings.

First Geforce 6 driver was the most compatible and fastest.
Early Geforce 2 driver was most compatible and fastest.

It may not even be a conincidence that patches make things worse. But if you want a job in IT you probably will already know you're not meant to admit that truth. That and nobody needs a CPU faster than 8Mhz.
