"Ahead" brand PSU (actually feels decent)

I have one in an earlier Athlon system and it seems to be doing fine.

Except I had this strange problem, seemingly all of a sudden, the PSU fan wasn't spinning fast enough, if at all and the PC was shut down on its own when just running a utility to wipe the HDD.

I was near the PC and found out it shut down on its own! Then I couldn't keep a finger on the PSU heatsink!

The internal PSU fan connector is bad! I'm now required to connect the PSU fan to a motherboard fan connector or a Molex.

I still have yet to encounter a shut down after connecting the fan to the motherboard fan connector.

Yep. Still plan to use it for one of my socket A systems. It was running with the fan mod for months with zero shutdowns.

i would have directly run it to the 12v rail. no extra plugs to deal with.

I doubt it. The brand "Ahead" just sounds very generic - probably a gutless wonder PSU. (or am I completely wrong here?)
Posts some pics of the insides of the PSU, if possible.

That will make the fan too loud (unless of course you already have a noisy computer and don't mind).

Looks decent, like a solid 300W unit. I don't think it has OTP, unless the thermistors are hidden under the heatsinks like some companies do.

Looks like a transistor it uses to regulate the fan speed.

Transistor looks ok, covered in well-done baked hot glue.

Recap and use quality fans brands I posted. Run off the 5V internally by cutting the trace and jumper to the 5V. This hodge job I do not like sticking wires out through this PSU for *Safety* reasons.

                                      Cheers, Wizard

Smells fried right there! It smells the strongest in that spot!

The fan spins too slowly now with it being plugged in that connector now! (I got shutdown and blazing PSU heatsink)

                                          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

When i fully shut off mac, orange light goes off and wont react to power button. I have difficult time resetting with combination "shift+control+option and power button", because it rarely works (reason unknown), when i manage to get orange light and then press power button macbook wont turn on and orange light goes off. When i hold combination with power button it turns on, and works fine if put it to sleep mode.

Works with battery and charges, but when i shut off i get this problem.

It had liquid spill. Board has no corrosion, keyboard is working, power button...

                                          Curious - clock going ahead

I've encountered curious and strange issue with HP Probook 8470p - the clock is constantly going ahead without any reason at all.
If I try to synchronize it, everything is fine, but after hour or two I notice that the clock is again 9-12 minutes ahead.
That's extremely weird. Logically, I checked the time zone and DST - everything is fine there.
That's only if the laptop was put in hibernation and then turned on again. If it was turned off and then on - everything is fine.
                                          Any suggestions?
