there are 2 ground pins, the other side is the 5v.
the remaining 2 are usb data

they link to the other side of the board, so you could fit a fine wire through the hole to solder to the pin.

Thanks stj;i have another same board that is bad and i scraped at the beginning of the missing pad and it is tied to the first pin which is ground and goes to that black chip,if so i can chant it to the first pin on the left and connect a small wire to the black chip right in front of the missing pin see pic of the board that is ruined and has only 2 trace paths

these crap connectors get ripped out a lot do they?
i know it's common on portable harddrives.

The extreme connections are for power, as I saw in the first pic the pads are OK, even without the other 3 pins connected the charging should work, in your next picture, you filled in the solder, remove that to avoid any shorts and wire wrap if you need the the data connection too, generally, you can use the flash card for transfer. Good luck.

Thanks TossDon, since there is no trace path on the second trace on the board, can i connect a wire from second port pin to the black chip, but i don't know if i have to connect it somewhere else/ thanks and have a Merry Christmas .

First, clean/remove all the solder dunes and then solder the new connector, the first and last pins should be soldered, leave all the others for now, MAKE SURE there are no shorts and connect and see if charging gets restored. FYI, The second pin from left is the ID for the device and Pin3/Pin4 are for data sync, all three are not needed for charging. Let me know how it goes.

                        Merry Christmas

in theory it will charge, but you cant use the port to connect to a pc - although it should charge from the pc, just no data transfer.

stj is right, you won't be able to connect to PC for data sync but it will still charge from any USB port.

was reading with great interest this post and i want to ask one thing:

no one suggest to use sand paper?

i have a lot and i only use it in case like this.
Just cook it! It's already broken.

                                      Sandpaper would be damaging.

Isn't sand paper good to sand the pins on the port? to make good contacts,i use sand paper to scrape the pins so the solder will adder better, isn't this a good practice, correct me if i'm wrong?
