Apple NVIDIA AGP GeForce 6800 GT Dual Link DVI+DVI outputs 603-6338 missing caps!

    Hi everyone,

I recently acquired this card from a seller who was selling a PowerMac G5 for parts. He mentioned that the video card was probably broken too.

Upon closer inspection, I can tell the reason why it won't work: it's missing a bunch of CAPS! (it's also missing an inductor - 1.0uH).

It's a nice card as it's one of the few AGP cards that will support 2560 x 1600 resolution on a PowerMac G5 using a 30" Cinema Display.

Looking at the card, it appears to be missing the following:

    1x 1.0uH inductor - orange square
    2x 1500uF 2.5V (markings on the SMD cap are 425 SVP 1500 2.5) - light blue rectangle
    3x 330uF 16V (markings on the other SMD caps are 437 SVP 330 16) - red/maroon square
    1x 470uF 35V (markings on the other SMD caps are 470 V FK 49EC) - yellow circle

I sourced the part numbers based on the caps/inductor that remain on the card.

Can someone help me identify the cap manufacturers? I'd like to replace with the same ones. I'd assume that Mouser or DigiKey would carry these but want to make sure I order the correct ones.

've attached a picture of the card pointing one the missing caps/inductor.

    Thanks in advance....JP

Caps are easy. Inductor is much more challenging as there's never enough info written on them for identification. There are other characteristics beyond inductance that are very important such as current rating and DC resistance that are not written on them. That's especially a problem in a multi-phase buck converter as not having the exact same specs can cause phase unbalancing. Best you can do is measure the package of the existing ones and get on with same package, same inductance and highest current rating.

THANK YOU piernov for the info!! In my search yesterday, I forgot that I had a Mac memory riser board that has an 1.0uH inductor. The one from the riser card (first picture) is 1.0uH 0741 AH, and the original one from the GPU is 1.0uH 0427 AN. It's the same size, except for the lot code being different, so I'm not 100% sure it it'll work, what do you think?

This is probably a datecode (41th week of 2007 vs. 27th week of 2004), they look very similar but there is no way to tell if they are 100% identical (a good milliohm meter may tell something about DC resistance but that's it). Could work though. But unfortunate to steal it from one board to fix another.

Thanks again! I double checked with my multimeter and DC resistance was between 1.5 and 1.8 Ohm for the two inductors. I'm not sure if this is these values are within the range..

As you mentioned, I have to "borrow" from one board to the other.

I'll order the missing caps and will report back once I have put the GPU card back together for testing.

The DC resistance is in the milliohm range, hence why a specialized milliohm meter is required. A standard multimeter cannot measure with this accuracy.
